  1. I may have the old seedpacket somewhere ill look, but It has the same lable that went in the pot when sewn. MS; I know the destinctions are nessecery but not nearly every post :P I ve your input just it gets a bit too much sometimes..

Yes, the seed were courced from LHudson too so I would love to see some pics osprey .

    :)

  2. Clusterfucking is good -_- , but will blemish the skin through spiking  . spiking causes calus(or infection) ,calus makes skin harder to remove :o making your job harder and more time consuming :ana: ... Unblemished skin is so peeerty and easy to remove, if thats your thang. :P

  3. My point was to show some new pics, Can we not repeat this peruvian/cusco/macro thing everytime?

The posted pic is labled from seed.Whatever it may be its different and i wanted to share it with you all, not start offspun argument/discussion. Lets just look, smile and comment, not justify the whole speil again. I love it anyways... :P

Oh yeah, these were sow in 2000

  4. Hiya. Well as for the debates, Im well over it all. I just love my cacti, and lable them accodring to thier seedlot/sender. :P

Im sure those of us that actually have a number of(not just a few but more than a dozen or so) these peruvianus/macro/cuzco can tell that there is destinct differences between them that doesnt come across on photos. I try my best...

Alot of hearsay is repeated, and names thrown nilly willy. I learnt from an old school cacti grower 70+ years old. I aquired alot of my mature collections from him, way before the name calling and tagging was even considered in the ethno communtiy. Collections were from 50+ year old specimins. Named 50+ years ago.Ill stick with that for now.

I have Peruvianus that look likt text book perus's, macros that look like text book macros and freaks inbetween every thing else.Trying to lump the in single family names seem far to trivial for the ease of these gems forming hybrids. Keep the name you got with the plants and let age decide :) These are quite different from the kk242 seed I have grown.

  5. :) depends how dense you want that hedge.

For the farming look at around 2 foot spacing all round with a two staggered rows seem to work well. Then leave a walking space, then continue rows if you have enough. :innocent_n: bridgesii tend to branch around 2-3 feet wide till really mature... by then you'll be cutting more for more farming anyways :innocent_n:

    hope that made sense.....

  6. I was going to post a similar topic a while back, without the feeding of animals  rather the self-medication they seem to partake in...

I do have a wonderful cat, who it seens is quite interested in most of my "special" herbs, but NEVER would I feed or force it to eat them. Thats sick...

She casually chews a bit of ephedra here and there, lemongrass and vietnamsese mint, basils, and guards my cactus collection like they was her own children(or kittens). I have no doubt that these animals are very aware of the activity of the plants in our garden, and quite often medicate themselves. Any thoughts...

  7. I grafted to a t.scop if i remember corectly. Out of all of the grafts this one has always shown an impressive taller stature. This difference may be the stock as the other-degrafted larger one(out of focus top left of pic) is the same age but was grafted to myrtillo and didnt show this trait.

    Bd.

Ps: its the size of one of those little soft footies!(aussie rules kind)

No, plenty of light, as you can see the much healthier bluer growth on the top 1/3. Its also just showing its first full tufts so its near maturation.

  8. Re; limestone etc..

Check out quarry rubble suppliers, rock or screened gravel depots. Look em up in the yellow pages. Ring around and you'll find places with 2mm increments in size. :) Took a few places but some are very helpful.

Some types of gravel/limestone like cat litter is also a good substitution.

  9. Has this one recently been removed and repotted?

I have seen exactly what you are describing show up on a relocated mature TBM.

I transplanted it from the ground(5 or so years) into a terracota pot. The roots were amazingly thick and not too many thin laterals. The said mature plant pupped on almost every section within 3 weeks, which caused the reduction in water pressure to the main older sections. Showing the denting or sucking in you describe.

I would say both Torsten and Pisgah are def correct, either water or root problem. Seems that well located, mature rooted TBM's dont show this...

The denting wont cause any problems.. more of a "cosmetic" thang. :D

Its nothing too bad except if its rot. If your worried, remove or wash the soil off, sit in peroxide water for 10 min the replant in new mix and new pot. Throw out he old soil and pot or sterilize. Hope this helps.

Ps: Ill get some pics tonight of this problem if it helps to show what were talking about..

  10. thought I would share a pic I forgot to post since 'everyone loves Bruce' :D

A nice midshot.... or moneyshot :o:wacko:

    gallery_1274_3_23127.jpg

Strangebrew I think your correct, i think this must have been a much bigger plant many moons ago.. I think what we are seeing here is the new growth from the base which seems to set alot of pups.

Therefore Rev, I think your right, its not it max potential height!

Im thinking that the sheer thickness and sout growth is down to the environmental factors. Its a very old plant, massive root zone, full sun, harshish outback conditions and prob the most ideal temp and humidity. Maybe the thinner growth I (we) see on other bridgesii are due to quicker and more lush growth.. rather than prime long term paced growth exhibited in this mature plant. The ammount of sunlight recieved seems to have a massive effect on the thickness. My largest bridge is now being shaded by the lower section of a big hakea. The diameter has at least dropped by 30% since growing in the shade. still growing stong just much smaller.

  11. Nice Photos.

The second looks remarkably like some seed grown kk427 t.peruvianus tarma(ill check my seed packet tonite). Now known as t.tarmaensis I think.

I have at least 30 of these grown from seed and they look very similar, Huge white/grey spikes.

    Thats my 2cent...

    :)

  12. Howdy. Well I can tell you for shure its not Eileen. Mature plant looks totally different. I will go out to the motherplant this weekend and get some pics. If it is a hybrid, which Im sure it is, It leans heavily towards both ends of the spectrum.

    Any positive essays on Eileen?

  13. Hiyall

Here is a pic of quite a unique t.bridgesii, or so I think.

It differs in characterisitcs from normal bridgesii as you can see, the main differences is its strickingly huge girth(thisis a 22inch pot!) I have a number of mature bridges and none come close to the thickness of this baby.

    .gallery_1274_3_18402.jpg

Suprisingly if you remove the golden spines... it looks remarkably like a pachanoi!

    gallery_1274_3_25152.jpg

    Close up of spine formation

    gallery_1274_3_101328.jpg

Total height of the mother plant was only 1.8m.

I have a mature normal bridgesii at least 2.5-3m at home!

Ive seen plenty of bridgesii but this one spins me out....

    Anyone got any thoughts

  14. Thats not too good :( Looks like you have high a high fungal count in your drying area that has caused many types of molds and infections. Recut 10-25mm off, then brush or powder the fresh end with sulphur dust to seal and protect the end. Really have to keep the length dry for at least two weeks for quick and clean callus.

    All the best...

  15. Im not sure if I should give the establishment's name out in a public form, as I dont want to cause my friend any undue harrasment. Please email me and ill pass her email on. Lets just say its in the southern part of the country. The kind lady was quite standoffish at the start..(Partly cause Im a huge hairy ogre, but mostly cause she's sick of getting asked for mmmmagic mushroom id's) but she soon warmed to me and revealed a few locations.

    :D
