    I found a pic of the cereus in pic 4 but it's from 2016, it did pretty well too in its 10-years. all the others pictured i gave away or lost track of.

    Hey Philo, been thinking about you quite a lot recently after you stopped responding and I am seriously relieved to hear you are alive, even though you seem to have a lot of stuff going on with the situation in your country. If there´s anything we can do to help, please let us know. We´re all more than happy to send positive energy and do whatever we can to help out a friend. For example, if you ever need seeds to get into the cactus growing again just let us know and we´ll hook you up. You know, I´ve had quite my share of bad periods in my life and if there´s anything I learned from that it´s that it´s not permanent and that there are loads up good times ahead if you stay positive. Life is all up and down and everything is a whole lot easier when you have friends that you can count on.     Hey guys, there´s been a recent spike of threads that involve potency and ingestion of cacti, which is completely against the rules and will not be tolerated. All threads or comments involving anything that refers to it will be removed and if this happens repeatedly I will hand out warnings or suspend accounts if I have to. I don´t like to, but these discussions will be the legal nail in the coffin for these plants one day, and I will not play a part in it. 

    I mostly saw constant rule breaking with new members, but I also saw it happening with some long term members too. The rules are pinned all over the cactus forum and I do not tolerate this ongoing disrespect towards the rules of the forum. So yeah, in case you didn´t know these topics are not really welcome, consider this a friendly reminder.
    If you come across threads discussing ingestion or potency, please report them. SAB has always been known for its great cactus division that attracted members from all over the world, and i don´t wanna see this changing because of low quality content that´s borderline illegal. bye EG

    Yeah I know. With all the fake Scop seeds on the market, I just wanted to make sure everybody knows they are legit regardless the Rib count. At that size it´s too early to tell more about the seedling, but I am sure it´ll drop the ribs later on or is a hybrid with more ribs than usual. Another possibility is that a Santa Seed corn got into the bag or into the Scop sowing area, but I think it´s probably just a rib anomaly.

    I already saw the first seedlings from that strain and they are completely normal Scop seedlings so far. Ritter mentioned seedlings having more ribs and stated 7, sometimes even 8 ribs, but they drop them later on. Like I said, I saw the plants that these seeds were from and I will defend them till my last breath. It can always happen that you move a seed corn during watering, or that a different species gets into the dried seeds, but I am absolutely sure these are Scops. The seeds have a totally different size than other species, which is already a giveaway. This is a photo of the mother plant where the fruits are ripening.     As a seed seller, I need to know what I have, especially after the shit show with the fake T. scopulicola seeds from Peru that happened to some of the other seed sellers. I can trace back the seeds to the very fruit, and it´s just really important to me to make that very clear. I went the extra mile to guarantee the genuity of these seeds and I spent much more than I usually do just to make sure I get excellent quality. I don´t even earn anything on these and I just have them in the shop because it´s great quality. It can always happen that you get a strange seed corn that doesn´t belong or maybe even an uncommon hybrid seedling, but I am sure about the authenticity of these. There are always seeds where you can´t be sure as a seed seller, but these were grown in Germany by a hundred percent solid grower that also had a great documentation of his whole act. If the seeds I get from Peru or Bolivia were half as good in regards to viability and documentation as these Scop seeds, I´d be delighted. So yeah, thanks for posting updates. I am sure it´s a Scop and many ribs on seedlings is not uncommon.

    8 rib scop?

     

    Well, if you can believe the guy who discovered and described it, then yeah, 8 rib Scop as seedling is not uncommon. That said, it´s also possible you switched the seeds. :-P Long story short, I saw the mother plant that these seeds were harvested from and they are Scops. This is not the cheapo strain that´s been going around.

    Hey mate, interesting plant and hard to ID because it falls in a group of plants where there are many intermediates without clear separation. It is definitely a column related to Trichocereus terscheckii, and I agree that the spines indicate it could be T. validus. I also saw some Bolivian Trichocereus werdermannianus forms which are very similar. So yeah, would guess that it´s Bolivian or a hybrid involving one of the species mentioned before,

    Scops a sproutin

    Be careful. Looks like there´s also some mold sprouting there. Or does it just look like that on the photo? 

    Take off the lid and let it dry out (if it´s really how it looks on the photo) and restart the germination when the mold has dried up. If you keep up the humidity (and if it´s really mold) it´ll mess up the seeds if you don´t take off the lid.

    Hey mate, 2+3 are probably a Browningia / Azureocereus viridis. The rib structure is similar to T. chiloensis, but the circular areole shape is much more typical for Browningia.

    I recently acquired a cutting of what is being called the South Australian Short-spined Tersheckii. I can't see how this plant is a tersheckii at all it's just so skinny in comparison but the mouthful of a name might stick! I do think it is one of the best finds for a while though, it's a beauty.

     

    I had never seen this plant close up until i received a cutting.

     

    In the witches market in Chiclayo on the north central andean coast of peru I had come across san pedro being sold there for purposes of divination; among the standard near-spineless pachanoi forms there was a multi-ribbed but 'skinny' san pedro that always has piqued my interest as being unique. I never saw anything like it elsewhere.

     

    I don't think these plants are the same, but there is a decided similarity which I was surprised to discover.

    Hey mate, that second photo in this thread is Browningia pilleifera. They are very similar to a Trichocereus and some truly majestic plants. Their flowers and overall shape later on is different. Unfortunately they are really rare and I´ve been chasing them for years.

    Here is a Browningia candelaris, which is very similar when you see it on the market too.

    I am pretty sure that the South Australian T. terscheckii belongs into the greater context of T. validus, which is probably just a Bolivian version of Trichocereus terscheckii, or at least a Bolivian intermediate involving Trichocereus terscheckii. 

    The flower definitely indicates a connection to T. terscheckii and I think that there are some clear similarities to T. validus as well. In the greater picture, there just aren´t that many other alternatives. I think everybody agrees that it´s certainly a relative or regional form of T. terscheckii, but it would be very interesting to see some DNA tests just to look a little bit closer.

    a question though, what are the criteria for winning?

     

    length? girth? how creative you get with it?

     

    I pick the ones I like the most. Simple as that. Length and girth and interesting, but we tried that last time and it didn´t really work out the way I hoped. So yeah, would love to see nice photos and the ones that I like the most will win. Will also factor in likes and other people´s opinions. The best ones will win and if it´s a head on I will just randomly pick someone.
