    Tricho serious?

Should´ve posted this on April 1st.
  2. No, you´ll probably have to wait a while. 6-12 months minimum. Scops look pretty unique, so you have a good chance to tell them apart once they are a little bigger.
  3. No worries, It´s only like two weeks now, and most of the ones that arrived are in Europe. They will arrive and both species are permitted imports. Even if quarantine opens them, they will probably pass them on. The shipping time usually take 3-6 weeks to Australia.
  4. Be careful. Looks like there´s also some mold sprouting there. Or does it just look like that on the photo? Take off the lid and let it dry out (if it´s really how it looks on the photo) and restart the germination when the mold has dried up. If you keep up the humidity (and if it´s really mold) it´ll mess up the seeds if you don´t take off the lid.

    is this a trich?

Hey mate, 2+3 are probably a Browningia / Azureocereus viridis. The rib structure is similar to T. chiloensis, but the circular areole shape is much more typical for Browningia. Example

    SS SA Tersheckii not?

Hey mate, that second photo in this thread is Browningia pilleifera. They are very similar to a Trichocereus and some truly majestic plants. Their flowers and overall shape later on is different. Unfortunately they are really rare and I´ve been chasing them for years. Here is a Browningia candelaris, which is very similar when you see it on the market too. . I am pretty sure that the South Australian T. terscheckii belongs into the greater context of T. validus, which is probably just a Bolivian version of Trichocereus terscheckii, or at least a Bolivian intermediate involving Trichocereus terscheckii. The flower definitely indicates a connection to T. terscheckii and I think that there are some clear similarities to T. validus as well. In the greater picture, there just aren´t that many other alternatives. I think everybody agrees that it´s certainly a relative or regional form of T. terscheckii, but it would be very interesting to see some DNA tests just to look a little bit closer.
  7. Thank you mate, glad you like it! The second one will blow you away too. Just working on the cover artwork and it´ll be in a league of its own.
  8. I pick the ones I like the most. Simple as that. Length and girth and interesting, but we tried that last time and it didn´t really work out the way I hoped. So yeah, would love to see nice photos and the ones that I like the most will win. Will also factor in likes and other people´s opinions. The best ones will win and if it´s a head on I will just randomly pick someone.
  9. All seeds are sent. Some did not send their address, so please send it over if you haven´t already. Also, I think I have 4 extra seed letters packed that I am happy to send out. The first ones that send me their address will get them.
  10. Hey folks, there´s a new grafting competition in my Grafting thread. I will give away some seeds of Trichocereus santaensis and Trichocereus scopulicola to max. 10 participants. If you want to participate you need to graft some of the seedlings and post photos here. I will pick the two best looking photos and award their owners a copy of my book THE SAN PEDRO GROUP. The competition runs for 6 months, so get in asap. To get in, make a post and send me your address in a pm and I´ll get the seeds to you.

What's growing on my cacti? Is it bad?

Can you try to gentle scrub it off? Doubt it´s anything pathological. Probably corking or scarring. Some of these could also be related to root formation. If this doesn´t get worse (or can be scrubbed off) it´s nothing I´d worry about.

Issue with one of my cacti. Help needed please

Not enough nutrients. It needs more fertilizer. It´s probably nitrogen deficiency, but there are other nutrients it could probably use as well. Just use a good all-in-one fertilizer and it´ll be back to normal soon.
  13. Yes, happy to include you as well. So I will get the seeds shipped within the next few days and you can start right away when you got them. Good Luck!
  14. Hey guys, great to see this post getting some traction. I will get in touch with everyone who sent me messages but it´ll take a few days. Got a very busy weekend at the shop, but will catch up on that asap. I´ll try to send seeds to everyone who really intends to grow them and post photos, so maybe I will send more than ten. Just make sure to post some photos later on, because T. santaensis is rare as hell and I´d love to see them grow on the long term.
  15. Hey mate, great to have you in! Let me know when your copy of the book has arrived by the way. Wanna make sure you got it.
  16. @Alpineswift Well you don´t need to send me anything, apart from the postage for the book in case you are one of the two winners of the book. I definitely take Paypal for the shipping costs. To participate just send me your address and I´ll send you the seeds for free. The competition is mostly grafting, but if you don´t have any stocks you can just sow them out normally. It´s a big disadvantage in regards to the time though.
  17. Okay cool, just send me your shipping address and I´ll get them out to you. I am always glad when I can give something back to this community and I kept some books particularly for this case. bye Eg
  18. Okay, I am reactivating this thread with a new giveaway and grafting competition. This time it´s Trichocereus santaensis (T. huanucoensis belongs to this group of plants). Trichocereus santaensis & Trichocereus scopulicola competition Ten participants in this competition, I will provide some free Trichocereus santaensis and Trichocereus scopulicola seeds for grafting. All participants need to be ready to graft when the seeds arrive (in about 4 weeks) and I will pick the two best look grafts and gift their owners a free copy of my SAN PEDRO book. Members that cannot graft due to whatever reasons can participate, but it´s really a big disadvantage and if you enter please post some photos in the future. I really prefer graftings, but I won´t turn someone away who can´t graft. The purpose of the competition is also to introduce new members to the world of grafting. I am sure you´ll love it, even if you´re not very good at it. You live and learn. Value 88 Euro (shipping costs of 15 Euro need to be paid though). so guys, all participants get in touch with me through pm and send me your shipping addresses. The competition will run for six months and the sooner you start the better. If the participants need more time it can be prolonged, but only as a worst case scenario. To participate, make a posting here and send me a pm with your address. Worldwide of course. Good luck!

    ID please, purchased as gladiatus

Hey godless, it´s definitely a Trichocereus candicans. I tend to believe the label. Trichocereus gladiatus belongs to Trichocereus candicans.
  20. That rules out T. gladiatus and potentially T. neolamprochlorus as well. T. gladiatus only gets up to 65 cm tall and T. neolamprochlorus is described as "relatively low". At that size, it can only be a regional form of T. taquimbalensis / T. werdermannianus. The spines are more typical for T. werdermannianus, while the skin is more typical for T. taquimbalensis. It should be something in between.
  21. It´s a plant from the T. candicans v. gladiatus and T. neolamprochlorus group. They all grow together and are closely related. Good find, hope to see some more photos in the future. They look almost like T. werdermannianus or T. taquimbalensis, but they are from Argentina. How big is it? If you get the time, please measure the diameter of the areoles and the ribs at the bottom.

    Bridge splinter in bone.

The same happened to Trout with one of his KK337s. If I remember correctly, he had to get surgery to have the thorn removed.
