The first pic look like a Trichocereus Scopulicolis, but with some varying growth patterns... The second, some form of Cereus ? Judging by the protruding ribs... Is the top a Bunnings purchase? I got one just like it recently. I'm no cacti expert though, and someone who is will probably chime in soon and correct me.
  2. Actually, I found that extremely interesting and informative, and not the slightest bit boring. Technical feedback - one thing i noticed is that in 4.2 you mentioned that no other water was given during the experiment, but then during 4.3 "sowing" you mention that "Each pot was then misted" ... isn't that a contradiction of your above statement? Fantastic stuff all round.

Awesome shots... With the gymnos - has anyone else noticed that they change colour when given full sun exposure? Mine have tended towards the more yellow colour than the ones without full sun. Will post some pics of my gymnos tomorrow to show you what i mean

  7. cheers guys - more on the way... If you liked that, then this promo mix by my boy funkform is sublime: I'm tipping he will become one of Australia's biggest exports. He played a rockin set at Rainbow Serpent this year :-) http://soundcloud.com/auunderground/au-underground-005-funkform Contains a remix of my latest release 'the deep era' about mid way through.
  8. Hey SAB'ers, Here's a deep house mix I crafted last year which ended up getting used as a symbiosis radio mix. It's the second completed part in a three part installment (for the mind, body and soul) where most tracks are remixed by me, on the fly, using Ableton for the whole project. Perfect for listening while working / or just kicking back on this rainy & drizzly Monday. http://soundcloud.com/matter/for-the-soul-deep-december-2010-mix Enjoy x

    melbourne earthquake

Haha - was anyone high during it? I would quite like to hear someone's impression of what it would be like if you were loaded / stoned out of your gourd and then the whole room starts rumbling and shaking.

    icaros,magical songs from peru

That link is dead on the ABC site - and i thought Liz Thompson's site was stream only, which it is, but a good old view source sniffed out the file location: http://www.lizthompson.com/sites/default/files/ITM%20187%20Icaros-%20magical%20Songs.mp3[/CODE] http://www.lizthompson.com/sites/default/files/ITM%20187%20Icaros-%20magical%20Songs.mp3 It's 25mb, 128kbps, mono.

    First subs of 2012 season

nice one d00d! it's great when you finally stumble across that monster patch hey. Pics are always welcomed. Love a good habitat shot. My hunt on the weekend was so fruitful that i now have a sore back... found a few new spots, and one monster location in the forests. One of those days where i literally had to drag myself away and walk past specimens or i would have never gone home!

for any Melbournians, i would be hunting today or this weekend. Conditions have been great this week, bitingly low temps and a good amount of rainfall earlier in the week.

    First subs of 2012 season

I would happily contribute to that thread... Over the years I have noticed a massive difference in colour (dark chocolate brown to almost bright golden yellow), shape, size.... etc. When I first began hunting in Aus, I thought all of the blue bruising finds were all different species. Amazing that they can all be from the same type but grow so differently depending on different things. It would be good to have a documented space for all these different types. Now that i think about it; I wonder if there is a correlation between stem size and cap differences. For example: wood chip subs don't have to grow very long, only an inch or so, stems before they are high enough to start putting all their energy into their cap, and they tend to become wavy or umbo as soon as early adulthood arrives... Subs found in long grass / forest floor with dense debris, on the other hand, grow a massive stem (almost a foot long in some cases) before throwing their energy into the cap, and they tend to stay more convex (or is it concave) and don't become wavy or upturned until they are very old. Anyone else notice this?

  22. The dacshys are great hey.. Most personality in a little dog I have ever seen. And smart too. He's knows all of our weaknesses and how best to exploit them Bad-ass spiky collar is bad-ass, because it also glows in the dark. Errr.... yeah.... sure did. Should have at least taken a spore print eh? I'll be heading back there this weekend to see if the rains this week have provided any more massive fruiting subs. Will report back if so.

Yes they grow exceptionally well in mulch gardens for the reasons provided here, the key thing being decaying wood. They are a wood loving species, and they tend to prefer disturbed habitats such as to the sides of an animal trail or human walking track etc.. According to Stamets, when you walk over a section of mycelium the fibres will literally reach out and 'grab' any debris you might have stirred, hence the preference for disturbed locations. If you apply these basic rules outside of the local parks and their wood chip mulch garden beds, and seeking out locations that will retain enough moisture for extended periods, you tend to find yourself in the forest. Couldn't agree more. You don't want anyone to 'give' you a patch or a location becuase it's so much more satisfying to find your own. happy hunting!
