  1. high, and lets settle this, have often put leaves and stems in red wine, and in order to get the cathinone effect you have to drink the wine within at least 4 to 5 hrs, i soaked the material in a jug of red wine in the fridge in the pub while i was drinking, and then just before leaving would have the wine and there was definitely a pick me up which was noticeable over the alcohol, if you leave it to soak for weeks all you get is cathine. and quite a mild effect, have been experimenting with this for quite a few years and the result is very consistent, non chewers do report a stronger effect than what i get,

    have a good day

  2. hey you all

anybody out there have any info on this plant? from what i can ascertain it was chewed by the locals in the western cape as a thirst quencher and stimulant, but so far can get no first hand info from anyone, did manage to get 4 seed which germinated, and 13 seedlings from under a tree, did taste the mature soft leaves and there is definitely an alkaloid in there, more bitter than catha even on unpruned trees,

will post a few pics of the big trees next time we up there.

  3. high

have done this quite often, only seen this thread now as not at the computer to often, 50 shoots of a well picked plant soaked in 500 ml of a red wine in the fridge and used within two days does give a mild stimulating effect, not as strong as chewing the same shoots straight after picking though, although non chewers do claim it is quite potent. am trying to :( get a more concentrated result but no joy yet.

  4. Hi There.

Thanks for the everybody for the support, have still got an incredible amount of seed left and if you pay for the postage and packaging, I will send batches of 5000 seed out free to any serious growers out there, pm for further info.

    All the best.

** Successfuly sent seed to 5 people in australia and new zealand, with no customs interference, even though one person asked that it be called a diferent seed it to went through. Long Live the system

  5. Haven't had a chance to grow from seed yet I purchased from the local people who live in the areas it grows, it grows right on top of the mountains so good drainage and high precipitation, have tried to grow it at lower altitudes with no success.

Other plants I have an interest in are, sceletium, silene, erythroxylon, and a couple of the salvias that grow on the coast.

  6. Hello all.

Have recently started smoking a root which is mixed here locally in bushman land (south africa) and wonder if anybody else out there has had any experience with this root?

My experience has been that it eases the intake of dope when a pinch is put with a joints worth and friends of mine have smoked in their bongs with the same result, it also seems to add to the smoking experience but I dont yet have the words to describe the effect, what say you all?nlx4x5.jpg

  7. Here here. This guy is fucking awesome; why are people trying to force him away like the PNG guy awhile back?

I love your work KhatMaDo! Do you have any pics of ~1 year old seedlings of various types? (narrow-leaf, red, other) I just love the way these plants develop, quite interesting. Have you ever come across the Transvaal Khat? (Catha transvaalensis) I suspect it is something like Lauridia tetragona, but interesting none-the-less. Not sure what the fruit are like, from the pic it ALMOST looks like a capsule, which could make it possibly very closely related to Catha edulis, considering most of Catha edulis' closest known relatives (from nucleotide sequences) have fleshy fruits.

The only difference between catha edulis and transvaalensis that I can see is the leaf seems a bit rounder and the fruit has no wing, also from reports from the arabs who chew it they say it is a bit saltier than the rest of catha edulis exactly what saltier means when translated I am not sure, I will make an effort to get more photgraphs together.

  8. Can anyone comment on this ?

I was of the mind that picked leaves were only viable for a few days as an entheogen, so importing foliage into Oz would be non-viable, due to time-frame.. right or wrong ?

If Catha leaves are legal (or at least sold) in Sydney, Please PM me with some spots where I can grab a bundle, for I would love to try some.

If not, then I shall respect the restricted legal status.

Dried leaves would contain cathine but no cathinone.

As far as I know a permit can be obtained to import a small quantity of fresh khat but not from south africa as it is now illegal in this country, probably kenya or ethiopia.

  9. Come chaps, lets focus on the real issue here, we all love catha edulis, and whose seed is bigger than whose, doesnt really matter as long as everybody has a khat tree growing in their garden. For years I have not been out in the public domain, so you might have thought that all khat came from australia but khat trees do look very similar when comparing narrow leafed with narrow leafed, lets just move on and get the information out there.

    Have a good day.

  10. Howzit.

All the seeds and all the plants I have originate in south africa, I have been growing catha edulis for close to 20 years, and having somebody "trolling" is merely sign of insecurity or a perceived threat to their status as a know it all. I dont get involved in these things, I have been posting on another forum and have not had a single bad word said.

    http://forums.lycaeum.org/index.php?topic=32725.30

As I mentioned before I am only posting to try and spread catha edulis around the world as it is a plant I have known and loved.
