    uni sucks 2

Unis are great as depositories of information - without them we wouldnt have access to the journals and papers. theyre also great for researchers But yes for all but hons. and higher students they suck - definitely not enough interaction in research or emphasis on experiments - your own i mean not labs with 40 + students and labs that you do twice in separate subjects The best module i ever did had less than 20 students in total and had 2 lecturers who are world class researchers in their field - fungi :D - one of the good guys (mycorrhizae) and the other the bad guys (Necrotrophic pathogens). If it wasnt for that course my entire degree would have been a waste of time in my opinion. Maybe that and statistics however much i hated it not that im advocating ignoring your cousre but do try and seek out electives in other areas of interests especially applied ones, they can lead to work in research projects or just 'understandings' where you get to use uni hardware and labspace and make good use of the library - especially journals like phytochemistry and things like that...

Hey auxin - being on the nth american continent maybe you could source some seed for us to grow here? then when the GC/MS becomes available we could test it and publish in response Best thing about having fresh material is that we could test it at different times of year and all parts I think that with this whole war on drugs thing we need to state first that with the viewpoint we have we are being actively PERSECUTED.They dont want us confined they want us GONE It goes beyond rebelling against existing unfair laws - like those that were in place with cannabis the attck is pre-emptive - they have been prohibiting substances with no public use for ages - look at PIKHAL and the analogue acts, and look at the ridciculous farce surrounding Mitragyna up for review now Those who believe as we do that drug induced states of conciousness are valid and natural human endeavours run contrary to the establishment They dont want to simply restrict us from things already outlawed - they want to eliminate the viewpoint and practice entirely. The UN itself has a body committed to the elimination of narcotic drugs and the plants they come from. Were up against massive opposition in collusion. Right and left wing governments, organised religion and pharmaceutical multinationals who want the trade kept in house. The powerful factions of the ruling classes which constitute politicians, bureaucrats, lawyers, priests and physicians want to retain their monopoly on political and economic power. think of chess if youre not one of the backrow and want to guess what your role in society is - pawn In Australia the TGA works to limit the use of all natural medicines to that sanctioned by them and the costs involved economically exclude grass roots use. Unless you pay the large fees involved you cant even market a chamomile tea bag as being a useful relaxant. This has nothing to do with safety because the herbs included as having culinary uses which fall under testing by the food guidelines by the health dept. can be sold freely. Theres value in the TGA - but its the table of user pays COSTS instituted after its formation that make it a tool of persectution so whats the moral? well i have no idea. i dont think we can have a revolution as theres no support - the public beleives what it is told and few are willing to stick their neck out as martyrs. all i can prescribe is civil disobedience in private. And preserve the germplasm until the political climate is right. Were not going to win a conventional democratic struggle if the war were winnable by that method then cannabis would have been decriminalised ages ago with the number of 'normal' people that use regularly.

    bromeliad seed

I dont know much about bromeliads except that they have Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) style of photosynthesis - like Cacti they absorb light in the day and release oxygen at night. There is another interesting species im wondering on availability - The Huichol pineapple I dont know the species

Or just new ways of taking the old ones, or different doses. Take LSD as an example - the resurgence in popularity and drop in average dose goes hand in hand. LSD now probably wont give you a trip anuthing lik ethe doses that once did - but it makes a great Party drug, the stimulation, the colour enhancement, the body mind fusion. I have seen people let go with awesome fluidity and energy on a dancefloor aided by the new acid - its beautiful Or finding new way to make the old I think the tryptamines will be with us for a long time. The seedring and involvement in the search hav opened my eyes to the marvel of just how much is out there right in front of us. Looking around in the subtropics here you see whole suites of psychoactive plant and animal life as an integral part of the ecosystem. The Rainforest trees and their mycorrhizae, the colonisers of disturbance, Psychoactive pondlife, Tryptamine containing grasses and the grazers that eat them thereby making room for the psilocybin containing genera on their dung And its just the beginning i bet theres heaps more JUST THERE right in front of us we just havent seen it yet even though we see it everyday The Tropics and subtropics are obvious places to look but more and more arid and cold climate plants are being researched as analogues for the species we know, and the reverse with compounds in arid plants turning up in wet climate weeds (Sida for example) or temperate species with tropical plant alkaloid profiles For example some land races of Turkish and armenian wild poppies (not somniferum) contain the same chemicals as the Lotus and water lillies (nuciferine, aporphine and related structures) So theres no need to think of the entheogarden of the future as looking anything like that of today. 7. Ah home brew I think ill get around to making that stout soon - but this time ill only put the recommended 1KG of sugar not 1.5 as i did before - waaay too strong especially when i bottled it into 1.25L bottles. Anyway about the law - i used to think it was a good idea - and it is but only where recycling can be done locally and rural areas should be exempt. As it is in WA they have no recycling plant so only the cans are collected and shipped to SA the glass is not recycled I just hope that the Federal government will step up to the challenge and provide the tax incentives and funding to make sure there are recycling depots all over the country to cope with the new commodity. Or exclude rural areas from the compulsory tax This is good for community groups who can stockpile community discards and cahs in at once for a local charity or such And its good for rural economy who already pay higher costs associated with freight, as it levels up the prices a bit more. Otherwise well be slugged yet again and the environment will be just as bad off

    Chong Pleads Guilty

if they ever do make bong illegal again we can alway resort to fruit Anyone else ever do that? Apples are best, though a beurre bosc pear would make a nice long pipe. Poke a hole with a pencil down from the stalk to the core, then horizonatlly through the centre clear across to the other side, and blow out all the pulp Pack the herb to be smoked in the top and a finger on the hole on the opposite side as a shotty and there you have it - instant, easily concealed and biodegradable pipe We used to use them at school :)and if youre really desperate ou can eat the whole apple afterwards to get all the resin - sounds pretty bad now but back then...
  9. So whats the truth? was hitler a veggo? He hay have seemed 'sober' but what ive read suggests he was wired on Methamphetamine most days It makes sense. I dont know how anyone could run a war without the clarity and Intellectual stimulation of Meth. It may not be the best drug to get a habit on but a vial of it should read - in case of extreme circustances break glass.
  10. sure - perhaps it is effective against some type of pain. Ive had experience with 3 types of opiate receptor analgesics Codeine,Corydalis and mitragyna. and that seems to be their order in pain relief. My definitely psychoactive dose of mitragyna did absolutely nothing to relieve a sore hand and slight headache present before the consumption of the tea, kind of a stimulating then sedating euphoria without pain relief. Your experience may vary. On the other and ive found a 10g decoction of Corydalis turtschaninovii tubers or less taken throughout the day to be a highly effective pain reliever particularly for muscular and joint pain where infalammation is a problem. And in itself a pleasant experience.
  11. In my experiences there was no analgesic properties whatsoever. Perhaps go looking in the Papveraceae, and relatives of hops for good medical analgesics.

    cannabis look-alikes

Prints are easy. Wild prints can be useful as ID material and sometimes as growing material (clones are better to start with in a lot of cases) You can either use alfoil or plain paper - or really anything thats on hand - a dirty print is of more scientific value than no print Decapitate the mushroom, one tha looks mature but not old, and places on the sheet Cover this with a glass or anything at all to slow down the drying out of tehcap and in the case of needing clean prints it does stop mould spores settling on the paper Leave about 12 hours and check by looking under the cap A coloured deposition should be visible - some dont start for longer , some are very heavy and others very light even within the same collection Apparently refrigerated secimens drop far fewer spores (stamets), ive found this to be fairly accurate. Once you have noticeable deposition remove the cap and put on a new piece of paper You do this for backups and because many wild mushrooms are full of maggots and they can quickly spoil and bleed juice all over the print adding greatly to the contaminant load. Put the print under another glass to dry off for a while then fold and place in a Zip lock bag with the name of species and collector, locality, date and any other notes - such as surrounding vegetation and aspect. And thats it for wild prints. The free spore ring Europe has a nice writeup on making (semi-)sterile prints for cultivation.

Benjamin Thomas mentioned it in his talk at EB2001. I read its in Far North Qld as well but ID is going to be hard - from the ground - hopefully it will turn up as an accession elsewhere Ill volunteer for Bioassay

    Morels?

Fire kills off many competitors - pasteurisation and sterilisation of the area. Morels are fast - the fastest thing iver ever seen - They can cover a Petri dish in 3 days and outgrow all competitors on a 2 D plane But they are not very robust - they rapidly take contrl of an area - suck up the nutrients and then as competitors restablish they form Sclerotia and wait for fruiting. The Fire also liberates ash and the salts within - most of the places they turn up occur along Ionic gradients.

    big buzz for a shortarse!

i had one of those but i had to cut it down and up to bring it, I wish id got a phot standing next to it but here it is anyway... in its former glory. http://www.shaman-australis.com/publicpics...s/pedroscop.jpg (sniffle) nevermind i now have plenty of cacti the size she was when i planted her - the growth you see is 3 years from about the size of the one in the pot - the 2 side branches werent there when planted either - they are 2 years old from scratch. Come to think of it she put on and extra 20cm on the sidearms between this photo and the cutting - the sidearms were at head height (185cm) and the main pole towered over me.

    Morels?

There not actually rare but exploit specific habitats. In native forests they can be very common after bushfires - when it rains They can also pop up in beauty bark just about anywhere. And good patches can be found in seaside urban developmenst in mulch adjacent to limestone walls. I had some dried specimens to resurrect but the NSW humidity got to them (and other precious samples and they moulded beyond use ) and now i dont know where to look - but ime sure theyll turn up in the most unlikely spot To cultivate you clone them and get a pure culture - then innoculate into a sterile substrate - anything will do justabout - even heard of sterilised vegetable scraps being used. Once colonised they are cased with a soil mix and Sclerotia form. Then you use these to innoculate suitable habitats (Burn sites, campfires, BBQ's) and watch and wait till nature triggers fruiting

    cannabis look-alikes

Those 'horrible slimey' things are probably Suillus sp. if theyre under Pines - and denmark is full of both. They are quite edible (just peel or scrape off the slimey cap) Im also keen on a print or dried specimens of 2 sp comon around there Macrolepiota konradii and Pleurotus australis The former i collected under casaurina Duff but its found elsewhere - quite edible too - a brown parasol mushroom on a long stalk with a detached annulus - i have print and an old culture but more material would be excellent The other is the native oyster and can be common on damaged Peppermint trees (Agonis sp.) It also adapts well to straw and exotic woods. It seems to be locally abundant in scattered localities as far north as Mandurah. Youll also find Fistulina hepatica - Beefsteak fungus around there as a wound parasite of Jarrah. And some massive Ganoderma australe on Karri and the occassional Acacia. Turkey tails (Trametes versicolor) are also found on Karri logs. Theres also some cool Red capped Agaricus which are edible - this one i collected but lost. Denmark is fantastic for shrooms! I also innoculated some of the damaged exotics down by the river (poplar, oak , willow) with Shiitake and shimeji - i wonder if they took It was an afterthought with some old sawdust spawn.

  22. Growing can be as simple as planting shallowly in regular seed raising mix in a pot then putting that in a plastic bag to act as a greenhouse - place somewhere warmn but not too bright, keep them warm and moist but with good ventlation and they grow fast. Once they have 5cm under their belt they rocket away Or you could go high tech and surface sterilise all the seeds with bleach followed by rinses in sterile water and then plant in test tubes full of sterile CSS. Once they germinate you can feed them filter sterilised thrive or such Theres 2 extremes - it all depends how rare the seed is. Ive done both. If you want good Cactus economic then go with seed rather than large plants - $50 will buy you absolutely shitloads of seed and the cumulative increase in biomass year by year would far exceed cuttings from one large plant.
