  1. tis all recorded via a portable DAW using SD card to transfer to poota
  2. thanks a lot yeah that is a didj, i recorded the track then ran it through the korg monotron (which is a little pocket sized analog synth) and tweaked the filters i'm sure it could be done better if i knew how on the computer, the monotron has a pretty dodgy input/output which can be very frustrating but i kinda like it's 'character'...and i don't own any real synths this is another track i'm mostly happy with, more of an ambient vibe.
  3. ha wow thanks for the nice words man, really appreciate it the recording process seems to make me forget what i liked about my own music lol or at least when i listen back i just hear all the things that aren't right, instead of listening to the song as a whole... for a while anyway so it's nice to know that it sounds good to fresh ears!! :D please do share your own projects, always keen to hear what others are doing
  4. thanks for the extra info vual, very interested to see how this all pans out for you a strawbale/cob house down the back of my partner's parents place is a possibility we are looking at, the council approval/building codes stuff is where i'm stuck at as i imagine a 'build as i go' approach would suit me best. if there were no neighbours to dob us in i'd just do it, but it is in qld suburbia (large block tho) so that is a concern. re termites - are your plans for load bearing cob walls or do you have a timber support? i've been told it's much harder to get a sign off without a more 'conventional' skeleton holding the place up, but then timber = termite concern. we've looked at getting a yurt also, as a temporary dwelling we can dodge all the offical shit, and give us somewhere to live close while we work on the rest. but the models avail in oz i've seen have had pvc/polyvinyl coverings which are not what i'm after, and i'd prefer to do some courses and make my own, so yeh..... anyway cheers for giving me a few more leads to look into, will help to get the ball rolling. do keep us updated!
  5. great stuff, thanks here's a couple of good links to add too first earth is a full length doco viewable in segments online. haven't watched it all myself but what i have seen is good http://www.davidsheen.com/firstearth/english/ and this beautiful house is worth checking out http://www.simondale.net/house/index.htm
  6. hey mate sounds like a good idea, been thinking about online colabs a bit lately i'm struggling to find a heap of time to record but this might help me make time if you're interested i could offer various 'live' stuff - guitars, didj, vocals, etc and i got no synths/decent beat making software so would work out nicely as a sampler, here's my own take on the multilayered experimental ambient song thing - the track called Whispering Trees http://soundcloud.com/isness/whispering-trees or http://www.myspace.com/isnessisms

    Panax Ginseng - large doses

i was also surprised by the effectiveness of ginseng when i first tried it this was in a period when i was abstaining from caffeine and was finding myself very sensitive to most stimulants. chewing about a teaspoon of dry root in the morning gave me a great energy boost, uplifted mood and generally feeling very motivated and positive. i guess you could say mildly euphoric. this dose was less effective at a later time when i wasn't quite as hypersensitive to stims, but still pleasing. i would imagine kefir-ginseng would be well worth a try, thanks for that info magicdirt. i have used withania (indian ginseng) this way (but with milk kefir) and noticed a definite increase in effectiveness, requiring lower dose. i figured this may be just to do with increased bioavailability but i had considered the possibility it increases the likelihood of crossing the BBB too

    tune hungry

i'm great thanks hope all is well in your world mate yeah solar fields is pretty perfect journey music hey quite diverse, such pristine sound and so spacious he has one album Earthshine, which is his go at the trance style. it's very nice, has an uplifting/morning/sunrise vibe, and more of a prog tempo mostly so not quite as full on as other psy, just in case u wanna shake your booty a bit too! dunno if it's your thing but theyre one of my fave bands - Acid Mothers Temple albums like Magical Power From Mars and Mantra of Love hold more of a ambient chilled vibe, taken me on a number of great trips many other albums but often more abrasive, heavy psych rock, great but intense or some of the solo works from Kawabata Makoto are great drone - as long as you can dig beatless, sustained tones for like 30 mins the opposite pole of trance music. not everyone's cuppa but i love it keep it real bro

    tune hungry

i second Gonjasufi, great album for electronic ambient/atmospheric type stuff, i'll tip my hat to Solar Fields and Monolake / Robert Henke for more psytrance like vibes - stuff like Procs, Tamlin, or the Zenon Recs stuff you probably know (suncontrolspecies, sensient) for other good journey/chill out music Ozric Tentacles - great progressive psychedelic music, or Nodens Ictus the more ambient side project Boards of Canada - warm analog ambient/chilllout Earth - Hibernicum. more rock vibe, but slooooowwwwwwww, hypnotic and tonally beautiful Naam - Naam. best stoner/psych rock album i've heard in a while Secret Chiefs 3 (prob on every recommendation list ive ever written) - very diverse, but here's a taste Valet - Naked Acid. psych/ambient, instruments w lots of effects Six Organs of Admittance - folky guitar stuff but with droney/ambient parts too Grails - awesome psych rock that''l do for now im sure. big smooch to you incog

    starpower

nice work VS and friends! i really like it, the slightly a-tonal broken instruments have a good effect, innocently psychedelic atmosphere, faithful to the original yet uniquely different the vid clip is great too. good luck with the comp!

    never Seen before...

sounds like it could be a boletus sp? i've found them in SEQ before, can stain blue very quickly, haven't witnessed 'bleeding' as such but maybe some species or in some conditions?

    manitou rolling tobacco

that's good news i've been purchasing american spirit additive free for quite a while, but everywhere i asked said the organic and roll your own varieties were not available in aus i dont really like tailor filters, so i often break them up and re-roll. a much superior smoke imo, more satisfying. you'll notice they burn slower and go out more easily if you wait too long tween draws also tried manitou once recently and enjoyed this also

    AGAINST “LEGALIZATION”

a fan of hakim bey's writing here i tend to agree with most his points, although i'd still support medical users' access to government sanctioned, GM'd, denatured cannabis products coz for some it's the only option, and the best medication. legal dispensaries are popping up fast in the US and i imagine it doesn't affect the underground too much. but yes un-illegalisation is probably best for all.

    Ketogenic diets

fwiw, i eat meat only occasionally so yeah my diet isn't really like the one they are most fond of either, despite agreeing with a lot of the info i still haven't become a big meat eater. there is a section for vegos on the site, they do say it's possible. i decided to increase my intake of butter/ghee, raw milk, cheese, eggs, otherwise it's mostly a wholefoods/vego diet, but i still feel i've benefited by reducing carbs, ensuring a sufficient amount of protein every day and utilising fats much more often than i used to coconut oil is da bomb!

    Ketogenic diets

i have moved more towards this kind of diet in the last couple of years. it's hard to say exactly how much is the diet alone and not other factors (changed other habits, also now eat almost all organic/local food now too for eg), but my energy, health, mentally and physically has improved greatly. i have heard about a cancer treatment program which uses this kind of diet also. it can be a bit hard to find unbiased, non-extremist nutrition info sometimes so i figured trying it out on myself was the best way to go. i've prob posted it a few times but this is a link i'd recommend - http://www.westonaprice.org/splash_2.htm - it's not the "keto diet" but it's based on traditional diets that were high in protein and fats understandably some people would be resistant to increase their fat intake, the media makes fats seem like the devil. i figured i could afford to put on a few kilos in the name of science, have liberally used quality fats in my cooking, incl saturated fats like ghee and coconut oil, and would definitely have less body fat and more muscle than a couple years ago, this goes for the gf also. so these kind of diets do seem on the right track to me. but keto diet aside i also believe refined carbs are terrible for mood stability and energy, and if you were to avoid them alone you'd notice a difference. blood sugar spikes and drops, depletion of b vits and minerals, affects on serotonin levels, not good stuff

    do you use pendulums?

have played around and found some very interesting, accurate results but on the other hand have also put it to the blind test and it failed, would be better to try a larger experiment though personally i've just used a nail on string, or a necklace or something. your subconscious is certainly capable of such feats imo, it's processing and perceiving a great deal more information than the conscious mind. other theories have more to say about magnetic fields - ie a male seed is positively charged, a female negatively charged, the different charges causing the pendulum to oscillate clockwise or anticlockwise

    Psychedelic Metal Bands

yeah that's a cool album that one havent listened to as much metal these days, but i was probably always more into the sludgey/droney/stoner side than the technical metal anyway. first to come to mind is Italy's Ufomammut. these guys are also the art collective known as Malleus, you would probably recognise the style from heaps of band posters live clip - with some genre bending, i'd also recommend Boris, Sunn O))), Sleep, Om, Electric Wizard...

    Ozric tentacles

that's a true shame, but i have and would seriously consider traveling to the UK to see Ozrics one day, i have no other reason to visit the UK but that would make it worthwhile (ok maybe a few other bands too ) and just coz we're ozrics geeks....(insert nerd smilie) Ed is not in Eat Static, it is Merv and Joey's side project (or, what they left ozrics to pursue). Ed and Joey did do Nodens Ictus tho, the more ambient side project. Ed is def the mainman, but he is guitar/synths primarily as B Loco said, Jon was the flautist, and just fyi he is no longer officially an Ozrics member. i have heard some oldschool fans complain about it now being the "Ed Wynne Show" rather than the old ozrics band, but i think some people get stuck in nostalgia haha. but shit, some of the new material is the best they've release imo! if you love Jon, i've heard he is now playing flute with Dream Machine but i haven't heard any of their stuff yet

    Ozric tentacles

just reminded me i forgot to check back in the music thread for your reply hunab, had a feeling you woulda been amongst it all...i'm quite envious!! would love to see them live, just once. have you had a taste of the new stuff yet? but yeah, these guys deserve their own thread, incredible band! just the thought of the music puts an afterglow smirk on my face words cannot express...
  22. thanks coin, listened to the first one last night, great stuff. i wonder if the koan/questions technique is somewhat similar to the technique described by G*P in another thread ? in relation to 'getting there' without the help of plants...

    the diamond body

thanks tst, i will read this soon. i found richard and iona miller's material a while back and have read about as much as i can handle on the computer screen, i find their work is profound but also well written, practical and easy to understand. i went on a hunt for their books to spare my eyes, i have so far found 'The Modern Alchemist' and 'The Magical and Ritual Use of Perfumes' 2nd hand, if you would be interested in borrowing either when i am done please do pm me.

    do more with less?

ever since 2g was enough to travel much further than ever before, and rattle this little spaceship enough to keep him on the ground for well over a year afterwards, it seems laughable that i used to aspire towards so called 'heroic' doses. i believe these spaces can be reached entirely without substances anyway, so if some are able to with small doses it does not seem unreasonable to me at all, mentality has everything to do with it. i used to chat with an old guy on the net from an occult forum, who had practiced shamanism and magick in various forms over the years. he began using plants substances but eventually found no need, he is 'there' all the time now and can strike up convo with a plant anytime he wishes. when asked for tips, or how things work, the reply was often something like 'well you know, i used to use drums and music to create the trance state, but really none of it is even neccessary, just do it! i'm sorry i can't explain it better, i must be getting old hey! but it's as simple as that - just do it!!" i think mind training is what's happening, neural networks are set-up, used and re-used until they are natural, maybe. the maps and models help to do that my 'career' is shorter than yours tst but i have found myself especially sensitive to substances at two different periods, 1 amidst a health/psychic crisis, 2 when i was most diligent with daily prayer, offerings, yoga.
  25. hey hunab yes it's the newest, was released this year, def worth hunting down. love the ozrics ! don't suppose you caught them live when you've been in the uk?
