  1. I should say however that this can also be selectivly bred. Home varieties of peaches are good to eat only ripe off the tree, comercal varieties must be able to be picked firm to handle cartage and then the ability to continueing ripening of the plant. Also genetic modification costs 10's of millions of dollars and is only done for huge comercial worldwide businesses, Ie tomatos, apples, corn etc

Corn has also been GM to contain spider venom to make it piosonous to bugs!

  2. There are however popular varieties of regular fruit and veg that contain genetically modfyed components. Some Tomatoes=fish antifreeze gene, tobacco=32mg off plant, has to be weakened for sale, others for extra long term cold storage, ever noticed how some varieties of tomatoe last for weeks now.

  3. I didn't watch the doco, but as far as I know there is no such thing as genetically modifyied MJ! Selective breeding is not genetic modifycation it is just that!, selective breeding. It's done with hundreds of thousands of plant varieties world wide. Thats how come you have a selection of different apples, potatoes, tomatoes and nearly everything else.Wheat of today is alot bigger and grows better than the original variety purely by selecting the biggest healthyest plants to perpetuate from.

As far as MJ goes, there are three species, Canabis sativa, canabis indica and canabis rudaralis. Selectivly crossing/mixing these varieties has produced the varieties we have today. It is done for potency, taste, growth habit, bud-leaf ratio, legth of time to flower, etc. Sativa does not grow well in hydro so indicaor sativa x indica varieties are used. Sativa has more THC, grows tall, up to 20ft, this also contains the drug free variety known as hemp. Indica is short and compact, contains more CBD than THC and flowers quicker under less light. Rudaralis flowers independent of photoperiod only grows a foot or two and is very low in any active drugs. Its is sometimes used as a cross with strong varieties to create strong varities that grow quick small and flower with in a few feeks. Heaps more info but i hate typing but theres just a bit of correction to an obviously erronious documentary!!!!!

  4. So when exactly do the cops go there? Cause there is no local police station, any police would have to come from other areas! Do they come down on mass and saturate the area like they do in tall timbers(searching a large area and presenting a police presence?) Surely this would be too expensive! So they must just be bored cops from other(bigger) towns. Do they set up road blocks or just go searching for parked cars in the pines? Are they in proper cop cars or undercover/4x4? Also never go back to a verbal megaphone request unless they can see you. Just pretend your out of ear shot, then wait them out if your worried but you could just dump em and walk out innocentely, just say you were having a look around, there's no real trees in perth. Then thank them for notifying you it's mushroom season and proceed on your way. or They'll have to go home for dinner eventually..No cop is gona hang arround after dark to catch a possible shroomer

P.S. The farmers can see you parked and picking from jayes and they don't much like us lbm lovers. They will complain to the cops and then they know to come down.Walk u slackers! Also I noticed alot of litter when I was there, so if your out there leave only your footprints please.

  5. Thanks alot for that info. I also discovered today, that not many plastics withstand extended microwaving( a few blobs of plastic and a fire in the microwave was fun, not!)I don't think it has a gas filter but I could easily fit one then the whole chamber would be like a big jar.

Also I have sourced a few small vacola canning jars and as many big ones(10cup)as I want. until I find more smaller ones are there any jars from the super market I can use to make PF cakes? The only ones without a lip that would allow easy birthing have a pry off lid(so u recycle it as a drinking glass afterwards) If I was careful and pried the lid off without damaging it, could I use these some how? Like putting tape around the lid to seal them around the lid.

  6. Thanks for the info C. I havn't tried it yet but the glovebox work shouldn't be too clumsy cause its a professionally made perspex glove box with gloves for both sides. Also has an heating element that can be turned on to incubate at any temperature within its range bout 24Deg C - 40deg C. Also can be humidifyed and filled and pumped with a gas of your choice(not that im going too but it's just cool). From an old hospital, I have a spare one aswell.(unsure if the heating element work). look at universities getting rid of 20 year old stock.

Also just one more question(for now), what would be the best way to sterilize plastics? I assume most plastics can't be pressure cooked, do you microwave them instead? Since I want them for mycelium culture(not spore),after microwave could I wash out with hydrogen peroxide then distilled water?, as the H2O2 will act as a fungicide but any residue won't inhibit mycelium formation of your desired culture.

  7. I can get petris no worries but can't get culture tubes. Could I use sterilized old jam jars instead? If so, Would the mycelium need a filter fitted to the lid to allow gas exchange? Also when incubating the petri's, do u have them wrapped in glad wrap or taped? Would both of these still allow gas exchange while minimizing contamination?

Would test tubes be fine if I sealed them with a cotton ball, then a sterilized(with alcohol)rubber stopper then glad wrap for storing slants?

How much better improved results will I get from using my glove box?Noticable?

lots of questions, any replies greatly appreciated

  8. yeah, no worries on that.

Already got heat pads and thermostats from eeer oregano and brewing beer.Getting it cold enough will be more of a problem im predicting. Also in beer brewing u sterilize everything with bottle washing powder (S5 poison)active ingredients are alkaline salts 900-100g/Kg. what do use reakon about this product. Probably not as big a problem with contams in brewing though, cause yeast is so fierce!

  9. sleeping on sumthing makes all the difference.

Just wondering what the problem was with subs fruiting indoors? At what stage do the problems occur(caking, pinning, fruiting)? Is this due to contamination or some other trigger? Or is it simply through lack of trying?I figure if you can make the outdoor beds, That surely u could do it indoors easier.

who knew a large cylidrical metal boat could produce a spore print!jokes

  10. Na no preassure cooker yet(im lookin second hand). Got an awesome professional glove box though.still gotta set up the tararium and buy a humidifier. I've only eaten button mushrooms and don't find them anything special, ill eat them but wouldn't use them as an ingredient myself. Can u recommend and possibly describe the taste of some others( ie noki, oyster, shittake, blewitt)And with all seriousness I actually do like the taste of subs, people reakon there gross but I actually enjoy their flavour.

  11. So i guess subs are not a good choice for my first ever grow. (I havn't even done buttons from a supermarket kit.I don't like them and never had the chance to try any others as we have the small town syndrome.)I'll still give it a go(if i find any to make prints from) otherwise i might just have to try and source cube sporeprints.

  12. For active members of the psilocybe family(ie subs)how long does it take to see a blueing reaction after damage/bruising has been done(ie, how long till blue after you accidently kick one when out collecting field/forest mushrooms?)5seconds?, 5 minutes?, 5 hours? I wouldn't want to accidently pick one and be caught with a controlled substance...Do some subs take longer to paint blue than others?

    Thanks for any help

  13. in theory, what would be a good choice as a cake substate for those woodloving varieties of shroom?(def not subs)! I was thinking pine mulch, vermiculite, rice grain with cow shit? Any body got a recipe that subs find absolutly intolerable? Any temperature info on spawn and fruit growth would also be greatly ignored.

Whats a tounge doing in your cheek?

    Thanks for any theories

P.s. In theory or amsterdam. how would the difficulty rating for a sub V's cube fruition and completion.

  14. G'day all, I'm completely new to this board. I have reproduced animals and plants and now maybe the other form of life we have//// fungi!never done fungi b4!

im in the south west, planning to try and get/make a spore print from a sub, marine.

Is it still a good time of year or am I too late? I always seem to remember them from school holidays. Its been 6 years since i seen a sub, but im wasn't looking and im in the wrong town.

I've only ever seen them a few hours post bruising. How long from inflicting damage should you expect to see blue bruising on the, cap, stem etc? ......30sec? 5 min? or longer?
