  1. I just lost my big post damn it, I hate it when that happens. Thanks for the advice EG I was worried because the Wattage wasn't there. They also say it works best at about 1 to 2 metres above plant?? That doesn't seem to make sense to me. Anyway I was gifted it so I will do some experiments if they are real crappy I will definately post up and tell everyone not to bother trying them out.

  2. So I was fortunate enough to receive some peres cuttings from a forum member and have struck a a few and this morning I decided to have a go grafting. I am not confident enough to use any seedlings of value at this stage so I used some generic Lobivia and echinopsis pups. What amazed me was how well they stuck to the peres, was magic, I did a bit of reading and I think I have followed most advice to the letter, perhaps some of the scions are a bit too big but I figure I have to give it a go at some point so might as well be now...

heres some pics of the adult plants that the pups came off.

and the grafts I had a few plants with two new shoots each so I had a double graft of both, I think the Lobivia look a little better but time will tell I have put them in a fish tank inside with artificial light but the humidity is pretty evil here already so hopefully I won't see any scion shrinkage.

I know the scion species is a bit common but both produce beautiful flowers and I think will produce offsets and look pretty cool if they take.

  3. So any ideas? I know its probably very common but I know nothing about them so would like someones opinion. My guess Cereus peruvianus does anyone agree. I repotted it and it already has an excellent root ball and some green in the growing tip I received the cutting in late October..so will look cool in a few years I recon.

  4. I was given a cutting from some sort of monstrose cacti for my Birthday and it has taken root recently so I thought I would find out what it really is??. The mother plant was reported to be almost 2 metres tall. I am assuming it is a type of Cereus. Does anyone have an idea on the correct scientific name though?

sorry bout photos was losing light quickly when I took them.

  5. Not to beat a dead horse but I am growing some coleus I have a few types but one interests me a plain green variegated type, I also have some sort of Hybrid Salvia most probably a splendens of sort which from my own experience has some active qualities certainly the flowers do. I'm considering making a blend of sorts to smoke from the two with some mexican tarragon thrown in for good measure.

  6. it is really course and prickly but tastes like coriander and very pungent, I have seen it at bunnings labelled perennial coriander. Personally I prefer real Coriander but it is good to have if you can't get the real stuff.

  7. Hi again I am not trying to stir up anything but I just read this article

    http://www.gaia-health.com/articles401/000407-australia-ban-common-garden-plants.shtml

it state that it is legal to grow opium poppies as long as it is 100 plants or less and I am assuming you are not actively milking the pods. I'm not sure if this is true but I will look into it out of interest.

after doing further research the above link seems full of many misinformations as planthelper stated below please disregard.

  8. they were unknown origin poppy seeds and its just my nature to be curious I wanted to see what I had and if it was active, I didn't want to actually try it as opiates scare the crap out of me ie Oding etc but its always more fun to grow something you know is :shroomer: . Anyway I ment know harm and didn't mean to cause any trouble I have deleted the post and so we don't need to fight about it. Thanks on the advice on growing ornamental poppies. And again I am sorry i did not mean to break any rules.

  9. I love a challenge and they are quite an atractive plants so I will have a play and hopefully get a few up I am a chef and have access to quiet a few different Brands and possibly species of poppy seed and will talk to a baker friend and see if I can grow a few different out maybe see if we can get some different flower colours. Like I said its all a bit of shits and giggles, but Iwill definately post some pics if I can get anything to germinate, I have a shade house which I think may be the best place and I will grow them in cocco so should keep the water up to them.
