    Poppy seeds

they were unknown origin poppy seeds and its just my nature to be curious I wanted to see what I had and if it was active, I didn't want to actually try it as opiates scare the crap out of me ie Oding etc but its always more fun to grow something you know is . Anyway I ment know harm and didn't mean to cause any trouble I have deleted the post and so we don't need to fight about it. Thanks on the advice on growing ornamental poppies. And again I am sorry i did not mean to break any rules.

    Poppy seeds

I love a challenge and they are quite an atractive plants so I will have a play and hopefully get a few up I am a chef and have access to quiet a few different Brands and possibly species of poppy seed and will talk to a baker friend and see if I can grow a few different out maybe see if we can get some different flower colours. Like I said its all a bit of shits and giggles, but Iwill definately post some pics if I can get anything to germinate, I have a shade house which I think may be the best place and I will grow them in cocco so should keep the water up to them.

what species is that I think I have this excellent red flower.
  6. I usually have a sticky at the cacti section at Bunnings and every now and then you spot something cool. I found T terschekii, pasacana and candicans all at the Stafford Bunnings in Brisbane, the other two Bunnings around me don't seem to have Hamilton nursery cacti. I thought this was a score as generally its just the scorps around. Does anyone have a any photos of there terschekii's from doing some reading they get massive. I am thinking about putting it in the ground and letting it go nuts.

T terschekii and pasacana at Bunnings

I'll take some pics in the morning, these were actually labelled and from my novice eye look on the money. I've only ever seen the particuliar brand as such at the Stafford store.

  15. I think it may be one of the many Cephalocereus azures blue torch" Type/ hybrid cacti you see at bunnings but curious of a scientific name if anyone knows it. Looks like it might have a bit of black rot forming which is a worry but I haven't seen this type before so thought I'd get it any way. cheers. Mick

    Hybrid Question G."HIBOTAN NISHIKI"

I would call it awesome but seriously maybe a G friedrichii / stenopleurum cultivar? I am very interested in Hybridising Gymnos I think this is OK as long as the time is taken to acknowledge each and every cross. Today I attempted to crossed G friedrichii with G baldianum I crossed both plants, I am interested in wether a) it takes. and the progeny will have different characteristics depending on which species was the mother/ father? I don't pretend to understand plant genes let alone loose cacti genes but should make for a cool project hope I get some seeds. here are the two plants in question
  20. I am curious about Gymnocalycium mihanovichii v friedrichii cv "HIBOTAN NISHIKI" I have a few cultivars and I want to cross this back with the more traditional Gymnocalycium mihanovichii or friedrichii all of my specimens come through Bunnings or the likes so I am think most of them are somewhat hybridised anyway. What interest me is that the Hibotan nishiki can grow on there own roots. Moses on this forum actually has seedlings that he has sprouted which look cool as, its mainly a bit of sport but was hoping for a bit of information on variegated cacti and the likes, anyone working on any cool colours or patterns? Here are some pics of what I will use for breeding stock. Not sure what this is exactly but it is variegated and in full flower right now A Gymnocalycium mihanovichii v friedrichii cv "HIBOTAN NISHIKI" (or as close enough that I could get) Sold as Gymnocalycium mihanovichii but the flower is more friedrichii so not sure if its a hybrid etc Anyway I am going to set up a controlled light box and have a go and see what colours variations and patterns I can get.

    Hybrid Question G."HIBOTAN NISHIKI"

Awesome stuff Moses yep I got the bug good. A lot of my stuff is in flower at present so I will have a chance over the next couple weeks to try and create some hybrid seeds and fingers crossed I get some cool variations amongst it all.

    Hybrid Question G."HIBOTAN NISHIKI"

Yep the Gymnos are crossed and mislabelled to death but the top pic is a pretty good example of G. mihanovichii (var. filadelfiense) because if its semi-closed flowers its a less likely to hybridise as readily but its flower is obviously a bit drab because of it.
  23. isn't the plant on right is a true succulent? If it is a cacti then I guess it could be used as stock. Mutant the stock grows like lightening here.
  24. I have been playing around with an Opuntia sp (unknown) as a stock for grafts, just using various pups I have, how long before you can tell if the grafts have taken? I went into it a bit blind but so far all four grafts seem to have taken, its been 3 weeks and nothing is looking worse for wear? I am curious to see if the graft will grow more rapidly as I have similar sized pups of each sp rooted in soil as a comparison. Heres a couple pics from a week ago, like I said its a bit rough as it was a bit of a spur of the moment thing with alcohol involved lol, I am actually quite surprised its worked this long lol. I think this is G denadatum and an unknown Lobivia sp/ hybrid? I used anoth Lobivia sp as well as an Echinopsis hybrid (some sort of barrel type) as the other two examples but I don't seem to have taken photos of them. Any advice would be much appreciated.
  25. I was given this fresh cutting for my Birthday and am curious if anyone can ID it it is a nice robust thick cacti should be good for root stock as I can get alot more. ANy Ideas?
