‘The opiate drug morphine is effective in easing long-standing coughs, as doctors have suspected, a study shows.

Physicians have been prescribing, on a hunch, the powerful drug to people with stubborn coughs for years.

But until now, there was no hard proof from a trial comparing the effect of morphine with a dummy treatment.’

I was always under the impression the heroin was originally created for the purpose of being an alternative cough suppressent to morphine.

And even without the above, it is already known that both heroin and codeine are cough suppressents so this I don't see why this "proof" made into the popular media.

It's a bit obvious... But they mention this, but no one had actually done the good research on it to show exactly what we already knew ;)

Sort of why I posted it :)
