J Smith Posted November 8, 2008 Hello, I've been lurking for a while and thought I'd break my silence by asking for an ID of these I picked up at Hamiltons a few weeks ago. This first one has a tag of Peruvianus Monstrose. The new growth suggests it likes its new home. No tag on the second one. Cheers
0 ballzac Posted November 8, 2008 #1 Cereus peruvianus monstrose #2 Trichocereus (probably pasacana or terscheckii, although I'm sure someone else will have a better idea.)
0 J Smith Posted November 12, 2008 Thanks Ballzac, I guess no one else does have a better idea.
0 PD. Posted November 12, 2008 yeh number one is C peruvi monstrose. That second plant is interesting, very hard to say for sure like most trichos when they are young, hybrid of some sorts with the qualities that ballzy speaks of would be my guess, i could very easily be wrong though. Damn nice plant.
0 mutant Posted November 12, 2008 (edited) Welcome and nice find [the second one] I suppose it will be more interesting to see a photo after some months of active growth... Could also help the more experienced in IDing to narrow down possibilities... PS: Take care not to kill someone with that monstrose spines! 0 J Smith Posted February 21, 2010 I've bumped this to add new pictures showing a years growth - I'm still not certain what this is but it reminds me of the cactus on the left of the first picture in this thread. http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23781&view=findpost&p=247611 It picked up an extra rib when I put it in the ground in about September 2009. 0 ballzac Posted February 21, 2010 It's looking even more like a terscheckii or similar now. I'm still not sure how to tell the difference between this and pasacana though. And I'm sure there's at least one more species that is similar to those two.
0 bℓσωηG Posted February 21, 2010 (edited) nice form! tacaquirensis? Edited February 21, 2010 by blowng
0 bit Posted February 21, 2010 nice form! tacaquirensis? Doesn't look like my one - mine has much redder spines, and much darker green skin. Does look like terscheckii to me.
0 Evil Genius Posted February 21, 2010 (edited) Its definately a Terscheckii but Tacaquirensis belongs into that Complex too so it doesnt really make a diffrence. They are very similar but tacaquirensis is not as fat as most Terscheckiis. And the spines on Tacaquirensis are more reddish and rounded like the ones on Terscheckii. Exactly like it is on this pic. The spines on my Terscheckiis are completely yellow. So it has traits of both species. There number of the many diffrent Terscheckiis and intermediates is countless and if you ask me, that´s another one of them that´s a little bit more close to tacaquirensis. bye Eg Edited February 21, 2010 by Evil Genius
0 ballzac Posted February 21, 2010 I've heard reports that terscheckii is active in similar quantities to PC pachanoi. Anyone know anything about the activity (or lack thereof) of tacaquirensis and pasacana?
