Heffa Posted June 5, 2010 I'm attempting to learn more about acacia identification so not only can i help out on the forums but also get a good collection going. This is an extremely aged and sad looking specimen but it has heaps of seedlings growing around it... I want it to live forever
0 whisperz Posted June 5, 2010 That's a nice find... would love to get some seeds from it... And that bark,... All I can say is wowowowww!!! whisperz,...
0 Heffa Posted June 5, 2010 I took those photos at the beginning of the year so there aren't any seeds at the moment otherwise i would happily share with anyone, especially you whisperz. There are like at least 2 seedlings and a few larger offsets near the base though. Plus its on my property so as long as I'm alive there is no chance of it being removed. I just really want to ID it. 0 cristop Posted June 5, 2010 It looks like Acacia maidenii. Just check that the nerves/veins of the phyllode remain separate all the way to the base - i.e. they don't join to the margin or to each other above the phyllode base.
0 Heffa Posted June 12, 2010 i checked quite a few leaves and none of them seemed to join. Although i didn't look through a magnifying glass to make sure. Sweet as, well in that case i might root quite a few cuttings and create some great grand children for this beauty. If anyone lives in or around Brisbane and wants some for free or trade feel free to ask. Or i could probably chuck some in an envelope for those a bit farther away
0 vual Posted June 27, 2010 Hey heffa i notice you are in SEQ, are the flowers Golden or White? I have found a few specimens like this but cant tell if there golden yellow flowers or white, those photos look white im just curious what color they are not threw the camera lense. 0 Heffa Posted June 28, 2010 they are defiantly white, its pretty confusing with some sp cause they seem to have white flowers but the pollen is yellow. I have seen this tree flower twice in 8 months and it had slightly different flowers each time. But always with obviously white flowers I think that apart from obtusifolia there are not many other wattles with white flowers..

0 kindness Posted June 28, 2010 Hey Shadow, although the plant mentioned in this thread: http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12532 is Acacia Obtusifolia... it might be worth reading through.
