at0m Posted April 15, 2016 The tl;dr is it's a non-circulating hydro system. Set and forget. No pumps, no circulating water. The longer tl;dr: prepare dark bucket/reservoir with water+nutes, obtain net pot, put well rooted plant in net pot, make sure it's only JUST touching the water, the roots will grow into the water and become "water roots", the ones that aren't in water will turn into "air roots", once your reservoir is depleted your plant is harvestable. Works best with whole-plant harvest leafy greens but apparently works with a bunch of other things too including taters? Here's some info on it. http://www.ctahr.hawaii.edu/hawaii/downloads/A_Suspended_Pot_Non-circulating_Hydroponic_method.pdf https://www.google.com/patents/US5533299 (it's patented but he seems lenient about it) (this guy has a lot of hydro videos, including dutch buckets which I'm also very interested in and will be starting a few of very soon)
waterboy 2.0 Posted April 15, 2016 was amazed to see garlic of all things grown in a similar way. No pot , just bulbing on top of a polystyrene raft.
