  2. Hey guys, got cuttings of a new peruvi variety off a mate recently. Thought I'd chuck some up here. Plenty of cuts available both tips n mids. $35 per 30cm. PM for orders. Trichocereus Peruvianus 'Kintika'
  3. LOL. I had this exact discussion with him when I got it. It was sold to him as peruvianus originally but like many trichs its origins are vague. The pic isnt the best quality as it's from a phone, my camera isnt working atm so i cant really get u a better pic. Based on the pic it really does look like a bridgesii, in person it looks like something inbetween pachanoi/peruvianus/bridgesii. I just went with what I got it as.

    Moldy stuff on Trichocereus spines?

I'd be inclined to agree with EG on this one, i've seen this before on a few of my plants from time to time, it wasn't mold or anything nasty, it was just regular dirt, and could either be scraped off by hand or left to wash away with the next rain. It could be something more ominous (though hopefully not) since there are a couple of black spots on the skin of the cactus. Perhaps just clean the stuff off the spines and watch to see if it comes back, and see if the weather/moisture has anything to do with it.

    Winter time cactus shots.

As far as i am aware (i may be wrong though) there is no currently available spachianus crest in oz, there is however a grandiflorus crest available that i've seen for sale from time to time, perhaps it is this? They do have similar spination and rib structure, just one grows big and one grows small, but in crest form they'd be harder to tell aprt without a close inspection. Hope this helps. Oh and nice collection you've got going, wish my cacti were that weed free, when winter hits here, they get overgrown, and the weeds don't die off until about middle of spring - start of summer. I pull em out and they just keep coming back in the colder months, hehe.
  17. I have mistakenly planted a few mid sections upside down in the past and they rooted fine and sprouted pups from the base instead of the top, and have grown fine. Perhaps it helps if the cuttings are only small when doing this, eg 30 cm or less. Archaea has a good idea with waiting for roots to develop before planting. These days i just check to make sure which way is up when i make the cuttings so i know which way to plant them when i do.

    trichocereus cuzcoensis

I have seen this variety growing in a couple of gardens in melbourne too, and even got a small cutting of it. The older spines do seem to go almost white, close up it looks more like a very light gray. On fresh growth they are orangey yellow, with some black too. It grows big and fat, but it's definitely not the fabled 'true blue', far from it (if there even is such a beast, i would think it more along the lines of the roseii form of peruvianus). Unless growing in the shade it turns to be a lightish green colour in full sun, and a darker green when growing in part shade.

    Some Garden Shots

Hey All, been lurking about on the forums for a little while now, reading all sorts of good stuff and gazing at all your beautiful plants so i thought i'd share some of my collection with you, hope you enjoy! I have been growing cacti for the past few years, mainly from cuttings given to me by friends over time and have built up quite a nice collection of varied trichocereus cacti, as you can see!

    Bridgesii?

Nice find, definite bridgesii. Never seen any trichos at my local mitre 10, but their cacti section is a table 2 metres long and about 2 feet wide, so it's rather limited. If you want good pots, go to your local nursery, you'll find plenty of good ones to choose from, and they're usually cheaper than bunnings/mitre 10.

    TBM cultication tips

They grow fine in the ground, same as any other trich. A mate has a large collection of tbms, most of them in the ground, and the same size plant in the ground vs in a pot grows 2 - 3 times faster/larger in the same amount of time.

    "True Blue" Peruvianus

    WOW! That's gorgeous!

    TBM cultication tips

They grow fast, very fast. They're cold hardy like normal bridgesii, so you can plant them outside. You don't need to graft them, but you could if you wanted to, if you do, make sure the piece you graft has some areoles so it can sprout new arms/sections. They look like the smaller clone, whichever one that is.
