Growing C. gummiferum from seed is easy. 1. Use fresh, ripe seed. Here in North Coast NSW, seed is usually ripe by mid-Feburary. From personal experience, germination rates fall off within a few months, year-old seed will give very poor viability and 2-year-old seed - don't bother! 2. Planting the seeds stem-end down does improve germination. Just press them into seed mix and cover with just enough sand to hold them in place. 3. Mimimise root disturbance by planting individual seeds into the deepest tubes you can find. Planting into seed trays and then pricking into pots later will result in many failures as C. gummiferum seedlings are not particularly tollerant of root disturbance. BTW. If you are growing these commercially, then cuttings are a much better proposition but that is a whole different proposition.
