Ace Posted February 5, 2007 Hello Folks, I thought it would be a grand idea to post all your best graft photos here. The only thing is, they have to be your own pics, unless they are totally sweet and they just have to be shared. There have been many posted before, but I think it would be nice to see the better (or worse) pics all in one thread for a bit of newbie inspiration I am still very new to grafting, and I have just posted my thread in the past week or two. I think it would be better to leave this thread open to mature grafts, perticularly lophs, but any unusual, rare or downright cool grafts would be appreciated. Please also include the approximate age of the graft and the age at the time of grafting; species of the stock and scion; and general conditions that the grafted specimen was subject to. For example (use your imagination folks ): Insert Pic Here Species: L. williamsii grafted onto M. geometrizans Age: Both stock and scion were about 2 years old at time of graft; graft approx 6 months old General Conditions: Kept outside in sunny area. Brought under cover in harsh weather. Please include these criteria, if they are unknown, please state so. I think this should be great when the peres grafting comp is well underway. Feel free to add as many as you want, but PLEASE follow the criteria so we can keep it a fairly tidy thread. Ace Posted February 6, 2007 ^Bump^ I think this could prove to be a great thread, lets get it up and running! I havent yet got any successful grafts other than my loph/pedro, but it is yet ot be proved successful. I will not post it until then because it seems pointless. Perhaps we could have a brave enough individual to make the first post? I think it would also be great to have a before and after photo, if possible. Also, approximate dates/years of the photos. But it is the first Loph to Pach Graft I've done.....!!!! ...and it's doing perfectly well...... doubled in size since the graft.... (2 months ago....!!!!) The reason why I did the graft was that the Loph had gone all soft... and seemed to be getting some sort of root rot....!!!! ....which in the end was not the case...... BUT... fortunately I left the rooted "stump" as it was in the soil.... and now have noticed about 5 very small pups emerging from the side of the Loph "stump".......!!!!!!!...... ......!!!!! L. Williamsii Grafted onto Echinopsis pachanoi The stock was approx. 6 month old tip cutting ...the scion was approx. 3 years old at time of grafting...!!!! ...and it is kept outside .. and only gets full/direct afternoon sun atm.... being watered twice a week....!!!!! Moses Posted February 7, 2007 these were grafted oct 2006 williamsii on t.grandiflorus the lops were apparently 3 yrs old only, 1 cm across and they started to rot so i grabbed whatever was handy and grafted approx 4mm tip slice onto the trich they both now measure around 5x4 cm i didnt take pix when i did them cos i didnt expect much the cuts were so thin i even used a cactus spine to hold them on Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

gerbil Posted February 10, 2007 Lovely grafts everyone Nice thread ace Same fella as i've been posting, some more shots of others coming soon. Lophophora williamsii caespitosa (sorry I can't remember how to write this botanically, and what type of ceas. it is) grafted to a T. pachanoi stock during early may 2005. Grafted the central button from a 2-3 year old specimen. Growing environment has changed over time, at the moment it generally gets put into full summer sun, else it's sheltered on an elevated verandah. The biggest issues i've had with it is the splitting and little catterpillars which i'm thinking could possibly be a cause for rot to set in, especially when the graft gets crowded and the caterpillars can burrow into it without the grower having access to squish it. Multiple times i've fished small munching caterpillars from the depths with a toothpick, but they re-appear sporadically. Dimensions Stock - approx 10cm height, 5cm width Loph (current)- approx 15cm x 12cm and 9cm high from stock lip, the buttons lower than the stock lip would make it around 11cm high. Never Flowered. She will be cut back relatively heavily and further graft once I get the graft stocks organised and settled in. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Not the cleanest of grafts but it seems to be going well so far. The second was done yesterday. Lophophora onto Trichocereus bridgesii. Fingers crossed. ferret Posted February 28, 2007 seedling Loph. williamsii on M. geometrizans, approx 2 years old seedling Echinopsis on E. pachanoi, 1.5 months old. Lost all my labels so not sure, think at least one could be Icaros macrogonus? E. lageniformis "Kai" on fat pachanoi, 2.5 months old. kadakuda Posted February 28, 2007 i have posted these pics a lot, but here is a couple. i did not graft them, i was jsut teh lucky bugger who bought them. Grafted on Hylocereus undatus, age unknown but flowering pretty steadily. 4 from one and 5 from the other after only 2 months. side note, how long does it take a loph to fruit? less than a year? just got some peresk so i will try some grafting onto those shortly. I thought it was also important to post a "failed" graft also You can see the loph has developed its own roots, as the fusion took place with a lack of vascular alignment. kadakuda Posted January 8, 2008 wow, ferret those are amazing! is that variegated really that colour, looks so bright that it almost seems fake lol. like a cacti hi-lighter...or is is high-liter? some damn fine looking cacti!!!! here are a couple neat cacti, nothing in the "magic" category...but they are truly psychedelic looking anyway! Turbinicarpus pseudopectinatus myrtillocactus geometrizans grafted but hard to see stock willy caespitosa another willy, this time playing with "maximum stock efficiency" lol. ferret Posted January 8, 2008 holy crap kadakuda, that myrtillo especially is just incredible. and yeah that really is that yellow, going to be a stunner. phos that left one is regratfted 'Las banos' x pallarensis peresk graft from last years comp, right is a yr old bridgesii grafted a month ago, same batch as the weird one in first pic, which didnt grow more than 1 cm high all year just got fatter. the others ranged about 5-10cm.
