T.Bridgesii Crested

Recommended Posts

Is there any such thing? I have seen references to a pic in one of Trouts books (or was it Smiths) anyhow, all searches that I have done have yeilded penis plants seemingly mis-named. Another reference at the Nook so I'll have to join and have a look.

I wanted to have the 3 forms (even 4 including both monstrose forms) together in a small patch for a nice display but the cristate is proving elusive.

Anyone out there in the know?

Here's a pic I have floating around on my harddrive. Someone posted it at a cactus forum somewhere, sorry I cannot remember who it was but I make it clear this is not my own pic, if anyone knows who'se it was feel free to say.

Edit: As stated below, the pic and the plant belong to nate123.

Here's my own crested/monstrose plant. I am convinced that the crested and the monstrose plants are not two different clones or mutations, but rather two growth habits common to a single common mutation. Crested plants of both the "short spined T. peruvianus" (commonly regarded as a T. pachanoi) and the T. bridgesii both set monstrose limbs that when cut off rarely revert to crests, though I have seen photos of such a revertion from monstrose to crests in the short spined T. peruvianus.

In this photo you can see how a monstrose limb clearly grows directly out of the crest.

The first photo posted is one of my plants. Like MSSmith said, this plant is crested, but during rapid growth it has a tendency to put out Monstrose/penis plant arms. However, i have several specimens of the monstrose growth put out by the crested form, as well as both a and b forms of classic TBM and i find the "crested" monstrose growth to be very different than either of the classic TBM forms.

Interestingly Dodie303 has this happening in reverse, he purchased a T.Bridgesii Monstrose from S.A.B that has put out a crested pup, very nice to look at.

There is a picture here on the forum someplace.

Thats just awsome! You could look at them all day, couldn't you? I really enjoy the crested cacti. Thanks for the pics zee, nate and MS. Some nice porn there.

I am assuming they are very rare and difficult to come by but I would love to aquire one for my small collection. I was maybe expecting something with 'neater' and more uniform crests like the crested pedros that I have seen pics of but that is even better in a gnarled, ugly but interesting kind of way.

I am buying if anyone is selling.

How old are those specimens btw?
