in terms of shpongle albums my favourite is still the first one (self titled or DMT?)

songs have more structure than latest.

latest feels like its all just shifting throuigh different moods while first builds up and breaks down more.

the sounds are sweet on new one though, dont get me wrong

how did his set compare to his new album?

first one is "are you shpongled?". i havnt heard the third one yet, i was a bit over shpongle as every dog and his grandma would come up and say 'oh man you have to hear this track, its sooo good' and put on 'divine moments of truth' (this is like 3 years after i had the album and had already listened to it to death). but his dj set just left me wanting to hear the third album.

his set... my GOD... i just layed down on the back part of the dancefloor (they had two sets of speakers, i was right in the middle) the sounds were alive. tiny little sounds that added to the flow became the focus, outlining the sounds rather than making the sounds. melodies between sounds and in empty air, ambient that was compeletly dancable as if it was at 144bpm, fat, fat basslines, spine tingling lyrics and beats in odd time signatures that totally went with the 4/4 feel of the tracks. eastern melodies that changed into aliens rapping whilst the auroura borealis of sounds gives the background noise.

fucking genius.

Try DXM - ambient 3, the gnosis blueprint, or other DXM stuff. Its quite soundscapey. You can download it further down this page http://www.thetastates.com/mixarchive.html

Bittersoundfoundation - ambient mix1 is similar soundscape/techno, I listened to once after tea to a pleasant 'hitch hikers guide to the galaxy' journey. You can get that from Baidu.com and search 'ambient' or 'ambient techno' if it doesn't come up by a name search. 'Surplus of rare artifacts' by John Hallur trances me out.

This site has a bunch of mixes, of which I have only listened to 1 so sorry can't give thumbs up or down - but heaps of MB's if you want to download:

And can't leave without mentioning Brian Eno. Early experimental work especially

hope this is of help?

Just wanted to let you know there are some ambience tracks being funneled through torrent at the moment.

http://isohunt.com/torrents.php?ihq=ambient&ext=&op=and

These tracks are 'ambience' in the purest sense - soothing sounds, pure tones, soft trippy vibes - not funky core beats or hard techno. There are several of them - I am on cd no2 at the mo and and pleased with them. ^_^

My favs have been mentioned... Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works".

Shpongle goes without saying although a great deal of it can get a bit busy and full-on for "ambient". Speaking of Shpongle, I've been intending to get Younger Brother, Posford's newer project. Heard bits of it and it sounds sweet.

Sigur Ros is good for mellow moods...

Mono, Coda, God is an Astronaut for melodic instrumental with a more experimental-rock edge.

Hermitude and DJ Krush also have their eastern-influenced instrumental trip-hoppy moments. Just stay away from anything with vocals.

I love NIN and Trent's instrumentals on albums like "The Fragile", "Still" and "Ghosts I-IV" would be great if made into a mix CD or playlist for ambient purposes.
