Bongchitis

Trichocereus Fatass

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My mates neighbour has a very nice cactus in his front yard which I believe to be a trich....but I don't know which one.

No spines, pale green, over 4m high and fat fat fat..............30cm down from growing tip is 20cm wide. I guess you can look for yourself. If anyone were to ask me I would say Scopulicolus but I am unsure.....perhaps a Juuls Giant??post-962-1131343786_thumb.jpgpost-962-1131343690_thumb.jpgpost-962-1131343886_thumb.jpg

Yup, definitley a scop. Nice one!

Notice the adding & deletion of ribs - a major trait of scops. It can happen in other trichs too (in fact its quite common near the base), but no other trichs I've seen do it as much as scopulicola.

PS if you give it some ferts, or a load of horse shit round the base, it'll probably green up and look even better!

Interesting, now that you mention I realize I have seen this among my 3 year old seedlings. Neat!!

It is a lovely and large plant too, very nice!
