here she is..Big Bridgesii "Bruce's" motherplant...

Recommended Posts

Well here she is in all her glory.

Bruce's mum. :D

She is only 1.8m max in height, and as you can see fron her stature she IS very different to Eileen.

No spine shapeshifting, Fully mature spines still big and thick. Hope this pic clears things up a bit. It is a very nice hybrid indeed.

Now he is known as "Bruce"

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say that yet.

As you can see, that is an old plant that has had the chop and pupped like crazy, which is typical behaviour for bridgesii IME. 'Eileen' is still an intact original plant from what I have seen, if ever Ed cut her I'm sure she would look similar to that.

Cheers for the photo, the plants a ripper! :)

EDIT: 'Bruce' & 'Eileen' would make a lovely couple I must say. ;)

Chucking dwarves is fair enough.

Chucking them into cactii's a bit rough though.

A very nice plant indeed.

Has it flowered?

I'd be very keen on a pollen swap if possible.

And any report on activity?

I tend to agree with stragebrew re the chopped look. Could quite possibly be the same plant as Eileen.

Definitely shows similar vigour.

How long ago was it lopped off?

BTW, my name is only associated with Eileen as no-one else seems to have her. I recieved a cutting as a gift years ago that she grew from, so some-one's got the original.

Recently got a clue as to a possible original (at least prior to me) owner, but they're 80kms in a direction I rarely travel. Fuel prices being as they are I'll wait 'til next time I'm heading that way.

Can't really tell from the photo if the old stumps are holding all their spines or not. Most Trichs I've seen show heavier spination on vigorous growth, such as a heavily pruned plant. That looks nearly identical to some of the strong stems on the SS02 bridgesoid that's here in the states. I think it's safe to say that this is not the plant's ultimate height too, as long as the knife is spared.

I really hope that clone is NOT identical to Ed's Eileen, so that a blissful union may still be possible.

my new desktop image..... :)

i agree T

thats hardcore cactus porn

id hug it and not care about the spines

shes a big bridgesii but can we see anything else that poinst to being a hybrid?

ive seen 3 other large bridgesii specimens and i can honestly say that bridgesii gets fatter than most think

just not until its older

i wish i could scan my pics of another clump thats just as thick , and which forms most of my stocks

yet my plants have the typical thin bridgesii look

and again my seedling bridgesiis appear thin compared to other species

i think thats in fact the habit of bridgesii

we need an 'I just creamed my pants' smilie

B) - this one pretty much covers the feelings afterwards, but we need something that represents the act of 'creaming ones pants'.

Actually, with the under-representation of females on this forum, do we really need an ejaculating emoticon? I'm sure that wouldn't attract any new ladies to the fold. lol

A nice midshot.... or moneyshot :o:wacko:

Strangebrew I think your correct, i think this must have been a much bigger plant many moons ago.. I think what we are seeing here is the new growth from the base which seems to set alot of pups.

Therefore Rev, I think your right, its not it max potential height!

Im thinking that the sheer thickness and sout growth is down to the environmental factors. Its a very old plant, massive root zone, full sun, harshish outback conditions and prob the most ideal temp and humidity. Maybe the thinner growth I (we) see on other bridgesii are due to quicker and more lush growth.. rather than prime long term paced growth exhibited in this mature plant. The ammount of sunlight recieved seems to have a massive effect on the thickness. My largest bridge is now being shaded by the lower section of a big hakea. The diameter has at least dropped by 30% since growing in the shade. still growing stong just much smaller.
