spiders
Certainly there arent many mushrooms native to Australia or introduced that are black in colour. And certainly none of the seriously poisonous mushrooms here are black. Also, since the Death Cap, Amanita Phalloides is the most poisonous mushroom known to man, your post is a little misleading. Nick
trust me there are mushies out there that are highly toxic - all different shapes and sizes and colours. And sometimes it's not the mushroom itself that causes poisoning, it can be microscopic stuff growing on them. There's more than death caps to look out for
Rev
or it can be a case of indigestibility causeing cramps and flatulence <___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.pngthere are a whole suite of easily identifiable edibles out there - if you must add to it at least know the ID of what you are about to try so if you die we can strike it off as a definite 'no'Then At least you died in the pursuit of knowldege not just became a candidate for a darwin award <___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png

Eating undidentified black shrooms and getting an unidentified poisonous reaction would definitely get my vote.

Tryptameanie
Hygrocybe conica is waxy, bright orange and red, staining a beautiful charcoal black instantly on even mild bruising. ( One I took home was completely black by the time I got there).Didn't eat it though.....
Anodyne
Found a lovely black bolete (think it was a native, given the location) once - shaggy scales on the cap, very dark brown sponge, ink-black stem. Couldn't ID it, but then again three-quarters of the fungi I find aren't in my book. (Anyone know of a good book for Australian species?) spiders
Nick if you could name one microscopic bacteria or mold that grows on any mushrooms that would harm me i will give you twenty dollars.Sure there are many seriously poisonous mushrooms - Amanita, Gallerina, inocybes, paxillus, Leptiota, Hypholoma, chlorophyllum, Agaricus Xanthoderma as well as some mildy poisonous species of the stropharia/hypholoma complex, russula to name a few. Hygrocybe Conica certainly stains black with damage among other colours, but in other countries it is considered harmless. If you had serious liver of kidney damage then you had serious poisoning - if your talking about stomach upsets then you can get those from countless mushrooms.
