most people will tell you that it is quite safe. and it probably is. however some unlucky few have been burnt and paid the price. It's not a drug charge, so if you're prepared to risk a $2000 fine (per instance) and courtcase (plus costs), then there is little stopping you.

There are so many already in australia an it might be wiser to try and source/share them from other collectors.

Recentally quarantine wrote me a nasty leter asking me why i waas trying to import cultures of 'prohibited' mushrooms species - i did not reply - the rest of the letter just explained to me the reasons why I would not be receiveing the package and 'to contact my supplier and explain that these items are prohibited in Australia'.

Ive been importing spores in letters for ages - never had a problem - even when some American wanker actually wrote on the back of the envelope the genus of the mushrooms inside.

So id say youve gotta be unlucky.

that is a standard form letter. 'prohibited' in this case refers to the fact that it is quarantine prohibited. just ignore it and hope they don't pass it onto customs.

Hints from a gnome friend who against my reeated pleas continues to do naughty things

Never import syringes

Try to avoid culture in solid conatiners

ie use zip lock baggies to hold agar wedges

always send in letter format never parcel.
