spikey Posted May 21, 2002 rev, they know sowing instructions?? do u know?? or do i need to write em down and the viabilty will last another year in my opnion , the seed is fresh and only germinates in winter here, that's another 6 months away... but since winter starts over there, i think they should begiven to someone with right place to grow / climate on one of the first rains spike
Caldeye Posted May 21, 2002 Yes, Spike, could you please mention here what sowing methods you use? By the way, do you know for how long are mandrake seeds viable? I've just got a few M.autumnalis seeds harvested in 2000, any chances they are not dead yet?
Gwydion Posted May 21, 2002 Rev, if there's any left count me IN. Bigtime. SASE on the way.
spikey Posted May 22, 2002 yes they are probebly viable, theyshould be viable for a few years even i think well, usualy what i do, and i heard alot of people do, towards the first rain u sow it, and just let it be there, don't awter it, let it live by the rain, in the summer it will diossapear leaving just the root, but don't shade it or let anything else disturb it in the summer, it needs full light and cool tempratures, it can have freezes, i think also in england it grows so it can have some low tempratures.... good luck
Guest DragonFyre Posted May 22, 2002 also best planted on a full moon
Guest reville Posted May 22, 2002 well there ya go... i was of the popular conception that it had a short viability. I thought it strange for the look of the seed but just accepted that this was the case. Its good to get the first hand knowledge. So far... Gomaos Terah Ts tantra Tripitaka Gwydion Dont forget your SSAE's to AFSR PO BOX 2227 Kardinya WA 6163 3 left. Dont be shy.Should be Ok from NSW round the bottom end to Perth And yes to spikey and anyone else with experience - we would love to know. I put 10 seeds into rich aged compost mixin a sunny spot.Do i need botto heat or is meditterranean type autumn temps OK (infrequent rain, warm days cool-cold nights)
spikey Posted May 23, 2002 here in the meditrenian they germinate in autumn so i guess that answers ur question rev if u have tempratures like here then just leave it out now in soil and wait spike
waterdragon Posted May 24, 2002 they definately grow in this part of the world and it gets really cold here and in the summer the temps in the hothouse where it was kept were over 45 degrees some days. so it's a survivor. i thought mine was finished when it died back but it just reshot recently (glad i decided not to dry that root out) and is now forging ahead. Being as I'm still rehabilitating myself from a fractured spine years ago I'm available and have the time and willingness to be able to take on the task. In fact I find the whole earthy gardening activity to be very therapeudic too. I get a little exercise and also the fabulous feeling of growing plants and flowers you know? Anyway I live in Brissy and I'm keen. If you still need someone? Your O P Mate...
