mcgrath111
Hi All, I'm wanting to buy or trade for some red khat seed. I have a small plant, yet wanting to get a few growing, as I have a space to chuck in a few - also there is something special about growing a plant from seed. I tried a few years ago to grow khat from seed (But found it really difficult, maybe 4 germinated out of 20 seeds). Cheers, Mcgrath111
wachumacallit
Fresh seed is best - I'd say viability is less than a year. Ziplock bag with a few drops of water (and air) works to germinate. Or you can just spread the seed on top of a pot, cover lightly with sand, keep moist. You don't actually need to remove the seeds from the husks (I had faster germination leaving the pods intact). Germination within 1-2 weeks, usually. You can transplant while small, no problem. In traditional areas/markets, growers don't sow seed -- they propagate 12" cuttings of their favourite plants. 6" or so would suffice. Too easy. I have one that I could potentially make a cutting or two if no one on the forum has seed. I had a decent sized one a while back, that produced a lot of suckers, sadly I moved and gave it away.
