dutchie
Hi All, just letting you know that this year I tried the addition of worm castings to the commercial cactus mix I use. Combined with the soil or added to the top of the already planted cactus. I was supprised that after around 2-3 week a noticeable change in the colouration (darker bluey/green) and enlargement of the diameter by around 5-15mm. The t.bridgesii I have all shot between 2-4 pups within a 4 week period of the addition. All of this years growth seemed to 'fatten' up and look mucch more 'alive and healthy'. Overall I was very impressed with the addition of the worm castings and recommend it too trichocerus growers. I assume the addtion of the worm castings greatly increases cation exchange though the high humus levels present, creating a more suitable substrate for healthy growth. I know too high a nutrient level may effect content, but perhaps starving before cutting may help this.... Anyone have any experiences with this?D
Torsten
I started feeding the trichs with dynamic lifter (composted chook poo and sawdust) with great results. i was hesitant at first, but then came across a site that advocated high nitrogen levels in rhododendron food for cacti. A professional cactus grower then confirmed this, so I went heavy handed. The trichs love it but the echinocereus started to brown off a little.
