Starward
In spring I planted Brugmansia seeds, and they have grown well. However, they have come under attack by two pests. One I believe to be a cabbage worm, that periodically ravage my plants. Daily I hand pick over every leaf, finding these bastards and crushing them. Interestingly these blighters seem to show no interest in any of my other plants. I have also been picking off any leaves that are infested with eggs. Then I have a white fly infestation. Can anyone confirm bugs and recommend what would kill the blasted things permanently? I have also used a commercial Neem spray, but no matter what, they keep coming. Starward
Having found the neem oil to be ineffective, I did some further research and based on this, I made up a DIY pesticide recipe. 150 ml vegetable oil 150 ml hand sanitizer (cheap source of alcohol) - it also made the solution more viscous so it stuck better to the plant 50 ml dishwashing detergent (emulsifier) 700 ml of water Mixed in a spray bottle, I liberally applied it to the underside of the brugmansia leaves last night and this morning the white flies are dead. Not a single one fluttered up when disturbed on the plant and only a few dead and desiccated ones could be found on the leaves. I will call it a success.
