ben Posted September 14 (edited) Greetings all, i have recently noticed these black spots appearing on a few of my Cube cultures (on malt agar plates) i have attached photo's, doesn't seem to be any bacterial or pre-transfer contam. Seems to be a growth on the mycelium itself, any assistance would be much appreciated. IMG_2570.pdf Edited September 14 by ben

saguaro Posted September 14 Those are droplets of mycelial metabolites, not contamination
ben Posted September 16 Thanks for the response, will look into see if there is any specific info out on black metabolites
saguaro Posted September 28 these metabolites are there cos you're growing them for too long on the same plate. While you can get away with it, it's suboptimal to allow cultures to cover the agar surface. You should be subculturing and transferring mycelium from the leading edge.
