After Kratom or similar in Aus for my wife who has Fibro and chronic pain

Recommended Posts

I've done the research and know it's one of the best options, but I also have seen how hard it's going to be to get seeds or cuttings here in Aus for some Kratom. Wondering if there is a reliable way to get some to grow or if anyone else knows other plants that are good for pain relief, she doesn't want to be on opioids her whole life.

There is evidence for the following in treatment of fibromyalgia:

Chlorella (and/or spirulina?) in high doses

Valerian

Vitamins D, E, magnesium, thiamine

Cannabis for chronic pain, often recommended.

I recommend using the forum search engine and messaging people privately, this is a bit of a sketchy topic.

Search terms like 'speciosa' are likely more handy than the K word. For this reason you might also have more luck if you edit that word out of the thread title and your post.

If you don't find anyone it does seem like XXX often stocks it under the counter, but you might need to find someone on good terms with the vendor to ask. I've heard their XXX store only sells small quantities for people looking for OST, but I've also seen them selling huge bags of the stuff at a festival in XXX quite recently.

Worth keeping in mind that as well as being illegal this plant still works on the opioid receptors, and withdrawal, dependence and tolerance are still real risks for everyday consumers. Could be a shitty situation if you ran out of supply, but if someone is on opioids anyway I can definitely see the appeal.

Yeh the quality of said 'XXX under the counter vendor' that is well known here is not great by comparison. I have read very recently that there are talks about an outright international ban coming from the UN (coerced by the US FDA as per usual !), so getting it in even from US vendors may prove increasingly difficult.

Comment from a friend in the US where this stuff is available and still legal (for how long?):

I have used it for treating pain and know others who have as well. I haven't heard of anyone who has tried this plant as a pain treatment report any "withdrawal, dependence and tolerance" issues at all. I am VERY VERY  sensitive to addictive substances. I've had my problems with them and give them a wide wide berth. I have never had any addictive feelings with this plant pain medicine. It works for me instantly and I never even think about using it again until there is another experience of significant pain. The thought to take this medicine when there is moderate or transient pain does not even arise. Certainly not when I have no pain. But it is something I know I can rely on at times when serious pain may arise.

In my opinion the amount of international money behind the efforts to ban and discredit the effectiveness and harmlessness of this plant medicine is astronomical and so, efforts to eliminate this plant from the face of the earth will continue and probably gather in intensity.

It is near insanity to me that this plant has been made illegal in one or more of its countries of origin: Thailand. Farmers there, who have been growing it for untold generations, must be quite perplexed at the whole situation.

Scarlet Dragon's post reminded me that Hamilton's Pharmacopeia includes an excellent episode on Kratom. From memory, Hamilton talks to scientists studying the behavioural differences (in mice) under opioids, versus kratom. And he treks into the jungle (under armed paramilitary escort), finding a strand of increasingly rare kratom trees to film. Sad, bizarre, true. He meets farmers, kids mixing kratom with cough syrup (take that, Big Pharma) and so on, well worth checking out.

It's hard to believe that nobody in Australia would be growing this threatened species.

im sure there are. but the amount of time that it would take to grow enough plants large enough to get usable amounts of leaves off them without killing them would be extremely difficult. Im sure there are people here that grow one for conservation reasons. But I'm guessing it would take a dozen ten year old trees to have a self sufficient medical supply for you wife.

The thing is growing a tree will take 5-7 years to produce any useful relief and that's in a tropical environment.

Its probably better worth your time to seek our a vendor that ships to Oz either form the US or Indo...and even then go money on recommendations as a few are probably dodgy too.

it's a very virgorous plant, you could haverest it after 3 years.

there is a saying, in thailand, if your boyfriend smokes weed, don't marry him, if he chews kratom, marry him, he will work!:)

and don't worry there are a few trees growing, in oz.
