Acacia Posted June 28, 2020 This site would benefit from an SSL Certificate so it can run as https rather than http!

Cimi Posted June 29, 2020 (edited) Yeah this is a long-standing issue which has definitely been raised in the past but apparently was too difficult to implement or something. It's a shame that there seems to be a lack of attention to many long-standing problems with the site. When others have brought it up they have been told that people have other commitments, which is true but I still think we should be working out ways to address things. The SSL thing should definitely be right up there in terms of priorities. Edited June 29, 2020 by Cimi
Acacia Posted June 29, 2020 I can set one up for free in 10 minutes... Hosting providers offer this service for 20 - 50 AUD usually.

Might need to talk to Torsten (is he still around?) or one of the other mods to organise it?
Northerner Posted June 30, 2020 It can be done for free with "Let's Encrypt". It's a simple task that most web admins should be able to implement in less than an hour.

Northerner Posted July 1, 2020 (edited) It does depend on the site code though. The site is quite old and may not have any easy provision for applying https encryption. There was some work done to add a store here a couple of years ago... but that kinda halted. If that was ever to go forward encryption would be mandatory. Acacia Posted July 1, 2020 Most websites run on a Linux back end, even if they are old school. Also, the hosting provider (if it's an online entity rather than private) will more than likely be selling SSL certificates and if they aren't, will be able to assist clients in procuring one.
