Oyster's on straw

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

Its been 24 hours since i added colonised grain spawn to the pasteurised substrate.

It seems like the mycelium is having a hard time migrating to the straw (hay?)

Any idea what's going on?

Edit: dark spots are seeds from the grain (not sure what grain was used possibly bird seed)

If it’s only been 24 hours just wait a while longer. I’m sure it’ll make its way through! Check again in a few days

That's good growth for 24 hours and it should jump to the straw soon. It does look like it has a little too much moisture in the bag but.

Yeah dude for sure! Should a cut open a few holes? Thankfully nothing is pooling at the bottom of the bag :)

I punch hole in my oyster bags and hang them so they just drip any extra water out. Then they fruit from the holes when they are ready.

I put small holes every 10cm around the bag, should i open those up a bit or should that do?

Cheers for your help everyone, next step is to transfer the used substrate to new straw and keep it alive and kicking!
