Old SAB pachanoi

I've been trying to I'd this pach for a while, pretty sure it was from sab probably around 10 years ago originally but not 100% as I didn't do much labelling back then and had a long break from doing much with the cacti.

The only pics I've seen that are close I think was just called sab pach #2.

I was confident all these pics were the same clone as it looks very different depending on the amount of sun etc. but now I'm not 100% either  so thought it's time for some input.

I included as many pics as I can 

Only had the first flower on one of them this last season too if that's a clue at all but most in good sun are fairly small. And hard to see but most of them are starting to show what looks like variagation (?) too

Took some pics, can't really capture them how i'd like, but these are some of what is possibly sab2. Sometimes it can go quite like PC, then others you can really see some scop / cordo like structure, and sometimes ecuadorian pachanoi, but doesn't have the same epidermis. I need to dig out a ladder to get some better photos of the tips.  They are fairly dehydrated at the moment, just started watering this week.

 

First couple are the older lower growth, they were really skinny and lanky cutting when i moved them from somewhere else and put them in ground.

 

pc on the bottom right, both left columns are the 'sab2?'

you can see the more scop / cordo like slump they get.

This is possibly the same clone as my previous photos, or it's one of the others I got at the time, this is super root bound in full sun for a few years in about a 500ml pot. (stem on the right)

Maybe it's more rare than I thought lol

 

It actually looks a fair bit like the santaensis pic posted by gerbil but with shorter spines, those big white areoles.

the @theuserformallyknownasd00d named one "Old School Pach" because he was unsure of if it was pach #2, but he said it came from SAB years back... that may be the one you've got... I've got it, but no camera to show photos... maybe hit him up a pm...

I got a few different pachanoi from SAB years ago, I seem to recall 2 or 3 different ones but I can't find any of my invoices/notes regarding it and the tags got lost/mixed up.

 

I've got one large plant that I think is SAB2, there's an image of it in my cactus pics thread on page 3. It seems like a cordobensis pc hybrid, but it could be anything really. It may be fields pachanoi, or a relative / hybrid, but i've got stuff all experience with that clone. It's spines are about super pedro length and have similar thickness and rigidity, but a little different. It can look sort of like PC when grown poorly but a little different. Mature columns get quite bloated and sort of get an ecuadorian pachanoi roundness to the ribs and the tip profile. It's a really nice plant and one of my favourites, really fat and the flower odour i've noted as being extremely pleasant. It's more tropical than the flat jasmine like PC.

 

The other ones that I got at the same time are in bad growing conditions, i've also randomly propagated them (also in bad conditions) so i've got a frustrating mix of them that need to be grown to maturity side by side and them attempt pollination to try and lump them in groups, and i'm going off memory as to how many ones I actually started with.

 

I'll get some better photos up of them this week hopefully.

Dont think it's the one called OSP.

I've got one from SAB, can't remember if it's pach 2 but it's a dead ringer for PC. Even down to the flowers with pale hairs. I reckon this is the same one.

Cheers guys, yeah in the past I thought it might be pc but over the years have seen the differences stand out.

 

I remembered there being Alf and Omar available at the time but was never too sure how they look growing and in different conditions etc. 

 

It gets very blue in more shade but I guess they all do really, definitely more than PC though and longer spines.

gerbil the pic you mention does indeed look very much like the one of mine in the ground, the smaller potted ones look pretty distict from PC though, and bluer.

 

Almost all of mine are starting to show patches of variagation too, unless it's a virus, but they're only showing on those ones no others.

 

What ever it is I've grown quite fond of it , great for grafting too I did a couple little crest pieces on two and the longer spines definitely help.

I remember thinking that might be the case Glaukas but thought they might mature differently eventually.

 

Thanks for the pics gerbil I think they probably are the same clone by the looks of it though it's pretty variable.

 

The last pic and the mid sections definitely look very similar to the bigger ones of mine, and the last one is fairly consistent with my hard grown root bound ones.

 

Is there an SAB #1 then? or is that just pc?

 

Mine haven't shown any of that scop like growth on yours but I haven't had any in the ground with good sun so that might do it.

 

The biggest one in good sun has that nice Ecuadorian type tip which has only started to show the last season or so.
