TheMooseZeus
Hi! I'm tomorrow a plan on dyeing a king sized bed sheet to later turn into a hammock. I have large amounts of Syrian rue but am finding it hard to come across how i would get that deep red colour. I hear an extract in alcohol? (I would rather not use alcohol if anyone knows another method) Has anyone tried this or know a method that would work? -Cheers! Matt1208
Following this, I wasn't aware you could dye with Syrian rue
TheMooseZeus
From what it looks like, a bright yellow can be extracted with water and a deep red with alcohol. They both glow under UV light i hear. I'll buy a bag and post my findings
TheMooseZeus
On second thought, i think im going to try dying with sunflower seed hulls. But i will try again with rue soon!
Northerner
Yellow dye can be had from syrian rue with a pressure cook water extraction, You need to base the alkaloids out of the water extraction, filter, and then use the alkaloids in vinegar to get a red dye. I've had great success getting wonderful colours, but I haven't found a good way to make them set. They seem to come out too quickly.
