rottenjonny Posted September 21, 2017 I'm happy today because ay the end of summer last year I threw all the plates I was working on into the fridge and forgot about them. Couple of days ago I took a transfer and they've taken off! Bring on the warmer weather. Now who wants to send me some culture? Keen to grow some massive oysters over the next few months.
migraineur Posted September 25, 2017 You could always buy some from a market and take tissue samples from them. I've also bought mushroom growing kits from Bunnings in the past and taken tissue samples from the shrooms that grow out of the box.
Northerner Posted September 26, 2017 Remember just when you take your sample to rip/break the mushroom open and then cut a section out of the ripped part. If you cut it open you will contam your sample.
rottenjonny Posted September 26, 2017 I'll have to go to the markets for sure good idea, the supermarket ones are too sad looking. I recently went to a mush farm chasing spores or culture but they told me they just buy commercial spawn.
Northerner Posted September 26, 2017 Yeah, they probably can't be stuffed running a lab and all the complications, knowledge and skills that go with it. Easy as pie to put clean spawn on substrate and watch the mushies grow.
