godless Posted December 2, 2016 (edited) this post has been months in the making, you may have to click 'full size image' to really get a good view and not the best pics im sorry. I will post more specific plants as time goes on im still a bit impatient with this first pic, still got 2 more rows (22 holes each) to plant. so far 91 plants including psycho0, Glenrowan, short spined bridge (cactus country original), roseii 2, arid art macro, bogan, arid art bridgesii, and tripsis macro. will be adding sausage, another bridgesii and a whole row of super pedro. ** the row on the right is all psycho0, the plants are leaning because I left them depotted up against a wall and they all sort of bent from the pressure of being against the wall, they should straighten up. these next 2 are my one offs however where possible ive tried to plant 2 of each. 150 plants with space for at least another 70, too many to remember off hand. Ex-Cess'es Posted December 4, 2016 Wow just wow its like a dream I had recently where the fields of cacti stretched as far as the eye could see f#*king amazing mate thanks for sharing the pics look forward to seeing some updates in the future
godless Posted December 4, 2016 (edited) just to clarify, there will be more, but this is just about it for this years planting except for bits and pieces I pick up along the way, still got at least 3 times as much space again. it will slow down though, ive planted pretty much at least 1 of everything I have from 10+ years collecting. so I wont be able to maintain this pace. Alice Posted December 5, 2016 Great work! Are you going to kill/clear the grass around the base of each plant so they're not competing for root space? Looks pretty arid so you might find that makes a noticeable difference to growth. I wish I had that much space... so good!
godless Posted December 5, 2016 the grass dies off in summer, but yeah, just using the ride on mower and wipper snipper so far to keep the grass at bay, im hoping eventually the root systems from the cacti will eliminate at least a bit of the grass. im trying to avoid poison if possible and planning on using shears for very close to the plants. Fungal Forest Posted December 6, 2016 Some sort of cactus Arboretum? You could charge an entry fee
zelly Posted December 7, 2016 .I mentioned those leaning in the first post, they'll stand up on their own. In your dreams lol. what will happen first is the growing tip turning upward and eventually the weight of the 90 degree bend and new vertical growth segment either breaking the stem at the first bend or pushing the second 90 bend down to the ground. The longer you wait to stake them the more they will permanently solidify in their current position.
godless Posted December 7, 2016 well other plants I planted earlier have stood up and im watching the ones in the pic slowly rise. and at my old joint I had a 1m pachanoi snap at the base, I just left it, and within 3 months it was standing straight again
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted December 7, 2016 Nice work buddy this is great!! Gonna be great in a few years and I'll be frequenting your campsites with other sabers I assume that's for sure!! Not to kick a dead horse but surely a few $0.20 hardwood stakes would help those leaning fellas out? I imaging the situation righting itself a lot sooner! but leaning psycho0 aren't gonna stop me visiting either way!!
godless Posted December 7, 2016 my thoughts are just leave them to do their thing, I don't really wanna force them in any direction in case they break at the bend. I think this might be my favourite plant (it needs a drink) grow my little pretty
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted December 7, 2016 Can't wait to camp with the bent psycho0! Don't forget we're all congratulating you all man, it's not all about the wobbles!
Horus Posted December 7, 2016 Great work, with the collection and its home. I find the ride on mower so meditative, brilliant to have a grid staked out by Cactus to mow. Check em all out while cruisin along. Fuck, there is just zillions of cactus between all us members now!!
