MountainGoat Posted September 19, 2016 On the perlite, I used to get it for $20 for 100L, then one day I went out to where they make it, $5 for 100L and if I bought a few they'd throw in a few extra bags... Crazy cheap. On the bags it should give you a brand name, then search for them....
Halcyon Daze Posted September 19, 2016 Broken/ cracked pots. Pot shops some times sell the big cracked ones cheap as they are easily fixable with a bit of silicon. I got a heap of 13cm pots for a dollar each at Masters. I love the pop sound they make when struck with the fatal blow. Brick is almost as good as terracotta for this too.
2XB Posted September 19, 2016 cheers @karl_marx & @Halcyon Daze, terracotta pots sound great, i am a little turned off from the manual processing of them, but am keen to give it a shot, thanks for the input guys :-) @MountainGoat I have tried that for ausperl, they have ex gate prices but not as cheap as you mention... like 20$ a bag- where u getting chillagoe perlite?? In this order I grabbed a few things but am really happy with the red roc zeolite 2.2+ much nicer than the zeoclor and cheaper to boot! I bought a bag of 1-3mm and a bag of 2.2+ both for 18$ each for 15kg bags it is sold as 'red roc booster crystals'
2XB Posted September 19, 2016 I have been using catsan clumping litter for bentonite clay source- not the cheapest option but it is fine for the moment - no perfumes in this one- available at supermarkets etc... http://www.catsan.com.au/products/clumping-clay/
MountainGoat Posted September 20, 2016 Yeah DB, chillagoe perlite. I think the base is mined there, then it is 'popped' near emerald creek...

Still cheaper than ausperlite, shipping wise, for multiple bags. I might give em a go.
Drake1337 Posted February 7, 2017 Bumping this topic to save creating a new topic! Although acacia are not cacti, the mediums are similar. Also I kinda skipped cacti to grow the Courtii, but will need the cacti mediums in the future anyway. I am having a hard time finding 3mm gravel or something similar. I have the charcoal from Bunnings though it might be to large? petandgarden.com.au seem like the go and I need to calmly go through this whole topic when I can properly. I am also unsure if the postage will be too high. Also the Coir from Bunnings seem pretty good, though is it coco Coir? It breaks up into a fine material. Downside is it has added ferts that I rather have control what I add. I might still make a whole topic to this yet, nothing much came up in the search.
