The ACT Government has sent the Commonwealth a strongly worded defence of its cannabis legislation, warning against any attempt to overrule the contentious law and "will of the people".

@Northerner, here's your answer bro:

https://www.sbs.com.au/news/spotlight-to-be-placed-on-barriers-to-medicinal-cannabis-in-australia

Barriers confronting patients trying to access medicinal cannabis in Australia will be scrutinised in a Parliamentary inquiry into how the drug is regulated.

The Greens said the medicinal cannabis system is “broken” and in urgent need of reform as their push for an inquiry into access to the drug won support in the Senate on Thursday.

Historic reform on the horizon for the U.S. It's going to need an experienced prostitician to pull the old "We need more research/There's no real world example of this type of thing working/We are behoven to the U.N. (read U.S) and their conventions..." bullshit of the last couple of years, but I'm sure we've got more than enough fuckwits in government here in Oz that'll all give it a solid nudge anyway :wink:

https://hightimes.com/news/house-judiciary-committee-approves-historic-more-act/

“Now that Chairman Nadler has moved the MORE Act through committee, it is time for the full House to vote and have every member of Congress show their constituents which side of history they stand on,” said NORML political director Justin Strekal.

Yeah, Oz doesn't have Wall Street incentivizing our government like in the US. I think it'll most likely be the financial sector which pushes this over the line here as well though. Money is their god and Cannabis means money.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/lisettevoytko/2019/11/20/house-panel-approves-marijuana-decriminalization-bill/#655f3684756c

A Congressional committee approved a landmark bill Wednesday that would decriminalize and tax marijuana on the federal level—but it’s unclear whether or when the House will vote on it and whether it could ever pass a Republican-controlled Senate.

And a little more news of... well, nothing really. Except it's all still unclear.

Well, a bill like this has zero chance of being passed by Mitch McConnell's Republican controlled Senate, in fact, probably won't even be looked at before an election, especially given the current circus. They haven't even passed the banking changes that will allow their bank mates to accept green money, and that bill was passed in Congress like 6 months ago.

Oh my fucking god; I can't believe they're still dredging this bullshit up. They've had 2 presidents who admitted to smoking hooch in their younger days (and one to taking cocaine). You could use that to put forward the notion cannabis is a gateway drug to the Whitehouse (quote Prof. Carl Hart).

"Before I legalise it nationally," said Biden, "I want to make sure we know a lot more about the science behind it."

My advice to Mr. Biden is to read the science. There's more than 30 years of it. And if he has any trouble understanding the big words, I'm sure there is a high school science student somewhere who could explain them to him.

https://www.healtheuropa.eu/new-zealand-cannabis-legalisation-bill-to-be-launched/95443/

Little added: “The primary objective of the legislation is to reduce overall cannabis use and limit the ability of young people to access cannabis.”

Key points in the bill

Key restrictions on cannabis in the draft Bill include:

  • A minimum purchase and used age of 20;
  • Ban on all marketing and advertising of cannabis products;
  • Requires harm minimisation messaging in the retailing of cannabis;
  • Prohibits consumption in public places and limits use to private homes and specifically license premises;
  • Limits sale of cannabis to specifically licensed physical stores (not online or remote sales);
  • Strict controls and regulations on the potency of cannabis; and
  • Establishes a state licencing regime that all stages of the growing and supply chain are licensed and controlled by the Government, and will limit the amount of cannabis that is allowed to be grown.

…. Sounding like a regulators dream. I'm reasonably sure the black marketeers will be happy with this.

https://hightimes.com/news/new-study-shows-students-less-likely-binge-drink-cannabis-legal/

Problem binge drinking decrease by an average of six percent among of-age college students in states with legalized recreational marijuana.

Why would Australia want that? :huh: No problem with grog here...
