Cactus in my garden

Question

Hello,

when I moved into my home, I got two cactus specimen as a present. I was told it is a Peruvian torch.

Can anybody tell me the botanical name of the cactus; or confirm that it is a Peruvian torch?

Hi TPM, welcome. :)

Your plants look like they are Trichocereus pachanoi rather than "peruvian torch".

"Peruvian torch" usually refers to Trichocereus peruvianus which has longer spines and looks a little different to these.

Very nice plants you have.

thanks for the welcome and the feedback.

It seems the plants do well since I moved in, they grew already 10cm.

SA seem to be the correct climate for them.

imho I disagree with Zed, I believe the plants are a form of short spine peruvianus, the key giveaway is the presence of wool at the aeroles, something not typically seen on pachanoi's

Pachanoi is my guess. Even Pach x Scop?

doesn't make me feel hungry thats for sure.

but never mind I have awesome chicken breasts and salad and we went berserk n got fuckin chips from the charcoal chicken shop!

the chickens genuine but. at least as far as I know.

distance between aeroles should be considered.

If someone grows one of these beautiful plants from seed in Australia, when does it become Trichocereus australianus ?
