gtarman Posted September 29, 2015 Hey folks. So I was searching in vain for pics/info on T. validus. I remember someone posting somewhere photos and/or videos of a giant validus growing in the Fields collection coming up through a shed or something? Anybody got that link stashed away somewhere? And is validus being grown by anyone like some of the other Fields specimens? I was just googling cacti and I remember this being such an epic-looking plant that I kinda just wanted to see it again and find out if anyone has their own big ones coming along :]
Berengar Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) http://trichoseriousethnobotany.blogspot.hr/search/label/Trichocereus%20Validus Here are the pictures of the Fields validus. A plant that's very similar or maybe even the same is growing in the SecretGarden (sorry, no pics of that), and a couple of open pollinated crosses have been made this year. A bunch of seeds got distributed to people in various countries, so there should be some awesome looking hybrids in a couple of years.. Here's my little 15 cm baby. http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41064&p=514657 Edited September 29, 2015 by Berengar
gtarman Posted September 29, 2015 Oh that was a member here a couple years ago who I don't think posts anymore. But it looks like he got several cuttings so hopefully some of those got passed around?

Halcyon Daze Posted September 29, 2015 Mr. Fields has two clones, both absolute beauties. There's a few validus hybrids going around, there is one made by PD (I think) that he called terscheckii X psycho0 but I always regarded that particular plant (from cactus country, Strathmerton) to be validus rather than terscheckii. Track that one down mate It would be a ripper plant to back-cross onto validus or indeed psycho0 -the spines of both are some of the longest in the business. My memory is a bit foggy though so hopefully I have my facts right for you. Maybe it's time to save for a life changing Cacti & Succulent road-trip and check out the big girls
gtarman Posted September 29, 2015 Hey HD. Long time no see! It would be cool to check out the Fields collection in person but I have no idea where it is or if they'd welcome/suffer random SAB folk for a visit haha
gtarman Posted September 29, 2015 Also Getafix you're on 666 posts! I think that means you have to sacrifice a goat. Where's Hillbilly when you need him
highdesertcacti Posted October 10, 2015 i have some validus x hz seedlings that i got from zelly, there just sprouts now, but will definitely show em off as soon as theyre worthy!
pinegapcontrol Posted October 10, 2015 i have 3 plants from PD, terscheckii x psycho0. when i got them he referred to the fact that people said it wasnt a terscheckii and he made a definite point to tell me that it was a terscheckii. from the horses mouth so im inclined to believe it.

Berengar Posted October 10, 2015 Too spiny?!? I have a misplant validus X peruvianus that looks very similar to your one, and am also considering giving it away because it's not nearly spiny enough for me!
