Am I a racist ?

Recommended Posts

I am Phaemon'sDog and I am not a racist! I think tattooed, face pierced, champagne drinking white people with expensive, salon styled dreadlocks look really cool. And I want the Black and White Minstrels Show to come back on, so I can learn more about black people's music. And ginger person Pauline Hanson makes thought provoking points and everyone has a right to an opinion. And I don't know why people hated the Nazi - after all, they were people too...sozz, got to off and vomit as even I can't stand my own "politically correct" bullshit sometimes.

ps - Oh and Malcom Turnbull isn't a racist either

I am Phaemon'sDog and not only do I claim to be 100% not at all racist but I am bigoted enough to post it up on the forum too!

ps - Malcolm Turnbull isn't a racist either, but prefers other people to say this, for now.

Cheeky Phaemon's Dog here - actually for a self-confessed capitalist I don't mind Malcolm Turnbull at all, so far. He does avoid the word "racist" like a devout Jew avoids the word "Jehovah" but so what? Admittedly he's in his "honeymoon" period - and I had one of those once and it really "pissed on my fire" I can tell you.

"Racism", like "fascism", "feminism", "socialism", "jingoism", "mafekingism" etc. is just another "-ism" where you hand over your independent thinking to someone else.

Worse than when people mix up the word "equality" with "equity".

Most people are not completely "racist" but neither are they complete sycophants. They are a little of each along a spectrum between two extremes. Each extreme has its own absurdity and contradiction. Its only the Law that at sometime is "pro-race" and then at other "abolitionist".

"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" said Samuel Johnson, and plenty of hypocrites play the "racist" card when they run out of logical argument.

People is people - little bit good, little bit bad, always living and learning. We are more than the sum of our experiences, the product of our pasts we can choose to be better, given the freedom. Freedom is the key, not legal control. - Bet you wish you had Pat Uri as a mentor too!

I feel sorry for Sally being made to feel bad, hopeless and shame. No need - heart of hearts Sally's a good person.

Chin up there Sally remember "the only time the bastards win is when you stop smiling!"

Peace and Love, boys and girls! P'sDog.

Maybe he was racist but he had good reason to be ?

Some of the shit he saw must have been horrific.

My Grandfather hated them too. He was a soldier in PNG and some of the stories he told me painted them in a very bad light. My GF reckons the Japs would have been multitudes worse than Hitler and the SS if they weren't stopped.

He told me they used to torture people with tinea. They'd tie them to a a tree and have someone with tinea rub their dirty socks all over them and then let them rot. In a tropical environment it can overcome someone in days. Some of them died from a combination of starvation, dehydration, infection and madness. Most of the soldiers said they'd they much rather be water boarded

Others were made to eat their own or someone else's shit and if they didn't they were shot on the spot.

The Japanese soldiers believed they were the master race and all other races would be exterminated when the war was complete.

My GF said they were considered at the time to be much worse than the Nazis, but the bomb turned the tables.

If people from another race want you and all of your race dead & see you as lesser form of life then racism is a survival instinct. It's not politically correct, but nothing is in war.

John Doyle (Roy from Roy & HG) wrote a mini series titled - Changi, it gives a good insight to the mindset of Japanese soldiers during the war, it's well worth watching.

If someone did shit like that to me I don't know if I could forgive them in this lifetime.

Id like to get peoples thoughts on a complex situation

My grandfather was in The Changi prisoner of war camp for many years and was 1 of 3 surviving members in his battalion, he was tortured by Japanese soldiers and saw the majority of his mates die.

He hated the Japanese until the day he died, which was ironically Anzac Day.

Is he a racist for hating the Japanese ?

i ask this questions not because i care about what you think of my grandfather, but more to highlight to complexity of how and when the line is drawn to be racism.

Well, if your pure motivation is to just be a member of the herd... then whenever in doubt, you should just consider any given alternative topic extremely offensive and racist.

That should allow you the right to hang with the cool kids!

erm. seeing as i think a comment of mine stimulated this thread, can i just point out i never 'shamed' sally or set out to for to be 'made to feel bad' & 'hopeless.'

All i did was simply point out that its a bit hypocritical for a white man in a black mans country in the middle of asia to feel personally threaten every single time he sees any chinese person buying property. I mean i know the whole worlds gone schizophrenic & theres a profound shortage of wisdom concerning topics like racism etc.. but fuck. logic is logic. im not in the business of shaming racists

My kids will be half chinese, do they have any less right to be here than i do because i'm mostly white? Do i have any right to dictate the terms when almost every single thing that is good in my life i have because a lot of people took extremely good care of this continent for an extremely long time & 'my people' killed them & took it from them & fucked it up? Racism has little to do with the point. it's just fuckin logic.

It's clear sally is an awesome guy. i never even brought up the topic of 'racism.' It wasn't even how i saw his comment. i saw it as a comment i thought was dumb in the moment. said something. end of story (as far as i was concerned).

if we go around reducing discussions of logic to 'isms' you just end up with a bunch of tired old worn out eternally revolving rhetoric that doesn't explain or enlighten anyone. stick to the point. sally made a single comment in a single moment. i made a single reply in a single moment. connecting that with the political maelstrom of 7 billion people trying to co-exist in a psychotic world doesn't help anyone.
