Flash problems

Recommended Posts

This not really a forum matter, it's more of design problem affecting the entire web. It's one of my pet hates.

Mozilla has recently blocked adobe flash because of security vulnerabilities and accessing flash content is becoming a pain in the arse. Facebook has made some noises indicating that they might be going to give flash the boot and a lot of people are generally just sick of it. Some are suggesting that flash could be abandoned altogether in the next few years.

Why they decided to care about "security" at this point is intriguing given the very long history of flash exploits that have been found and sold over the years. I've always blocked flash content because of the risks but modern websites are all built with active content these days, so it's a necessary evil in some respects.

Anyway, it seems like firefox blocking the flash content is causing some issues here. I tried to send a PM to Eth last night and it failed and didn't show up in my messages - sorry Eth. I'm also having problems managing PM's - deleting old messages ect.

So if you are using firefox and can't watch your favourite porn or just can't access stuff, firefox could be blocking flash and causing troubles.

It's easy enough to enable it again or just use a different browser but the exploits applicable to the latest version of flash are already being sold by several companies, so it's a real concern.

Flash is one of the easiest ways that governments can gain access to systems & anti-virus & anti-malware software is not allowed to remove these "legal exploits" in many countries.

None of this will be new to many people, but be aware the these exploit kits are showing up everywhere & http sites are especially vulnerable.

This not really a forum matter,

Mozilla has recently blocked flashing or 'bush wanking' as it's better known amongst the forrest brides because of security vulnerabilities and accessing flash content is becoming a pain in the arse.

And tree ape marriages amongst tree monkey tribes.

Anyway, it seems like firefox blocking the flash content is causing some issues here. I tried to send a PM to Eth last night and it failed and didn't show up in my messages - sorry Eth. I'm also having problems managing PM's - deleting old messages ect.

that's ok. i have my remote filter server setup in romania setup and tweaked so the images are scrambled by justin beebers tweets.

You're images were obviously too lewd to be recognized by the sabkomputer control gulag in antartica..

here is my helikopter pilot

As it turns out it was a storm in a teacup.

I submitted some workarounds and they've implemented one of them today. I made some some nice bitcoin out of this.

If it's not implemented in your browser tonight it probably will be by tommorow night.

For something I hate so much, it pays well. :)

Does the fix mean that pictures now take you away from the forum you are viewing and open on their own page instead of just enlarging in front of the page you are viewing? Because that's what happens for me. I much prefer it the other way than constantly having to hit back on the browser button or open the pics up each in their own new tab.

As far as I can tell the ability to reply to posts has also been borked. I cannot reply to posts using either firefox or internet explorer. Kind of annoying.

I am now trying Chrome, which I would prefer not to have to use. And I think it's working.

So is the corroboree now going to be permanently stuffed if you're using firefox? Or am I just the lucky one?

The patch I worked on didn't have anything to do with way the images are handled Zed. There were at least three other problems being dealt with over the last few weeks, so who knows what they've done. Whenever you see an update for flash it's not to make it better, it's normally to plug holes and known exploits. Besides the normal dribble like clearing the cache and cookies, it might be worth running something like bleachbit or ccleaner. If you then uninistall firefox (save your bookmarks first) it should reinstall with the latest version of trashflash.

If you want you could just upgrade trashflash but be very careful to get a clean update - google it and when you find the url manually type it into the address bar on your browser and look out for any anomalies. There's already a few fake patches floating around.

I hate chrome too but it has it's virtues. Chrome runs flash content in a "sandbox" which adds a layer of protection that firefox doesn't have. In a chrome session the flash content is quarantined for the lack of a better word, it's not perfect but a big improvement on the way mozzilla handles it. So keep checking firefox for a few days too see if you get the functionality back, if not chrome would be safer alternative.

All this should have been rolled over to html5 and all this nonsense could have been avoided. html6 should relegate flash to the trash can of history where it belongs.

It could be Stu, apple have a long term hate affair with macromedia/adobe crapware so they could be using it to make an example of how poor the software is.

Maybe try what I suggested for Zed and see if the latest trash comes with it.

security, ahh yess, the age old fear campain to get us to update unwanted crap at the loss of personal privacy and system functionality. Sit back and watch as australia turn the net to utter shit like they do everything they get their criminal hands onto. they fucked their own brick and mortar stores and now they shall kill the net too. I'm sure i dont have to tell you why this is... A country far too stupid for it's own good.

What's going on with the tone of your recent posts Ghostly?

Is everything OK?

You seem very disillusioned and disappointed lately mate.

As for Australia being a backward/corrupt country, I don't think you're going to get too many arguments there. Half of us come here to escape that national gestalt & for a change of pace.
