Sallubrious
I'd say you could start them indoors and grow them under artificial light but if they eventually have to go outside it would be a major shock for them and you could lose a few.Is there any way you could give them a few hours sun each day and bring them inside overnight ?I've done heaps of them that way and it eliminates any need for a hardening off phase when it's time for them to go outside permanently.
☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
its the outdoors i have no access to now days ...if you think they'd happily live their lives indoor i'll defo think about trying it ..the only shock move then would be from one appartment to a new house ...I figured that my outdoor climate was perfect for phleb n alpina and pataczechi too for that matter ..i need to have at least 4 successes to flowering age ... Also, no rhizobia added for now so I figured they might use the #3 feed while in experimental testings - hope it won't affect them in a bad way... - I won't be using raw tap water to hydrate successful phlebs post-rhizobial inoculation for sure, but HMA filter water 'a la aquarium' instead. ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
well I wasn't expecting to get that sort of quick start so figured I'd boil up 5 plebs, bung em in the rainforest box to keep warmer longer.. and see what happens in the mean time.. in the mean time ... I figured: "hey!" why not do 5 courtii and 5 obtusifolia too? - while I'm at it And if I recall rightly ... I struggled first time round getting obtusi to tail-poop until accidentally leaving them on a kitchen windowsill, forgetting a while and returning to them much to my delight to find they had sprouted .. so I might take that one out of the RFB tomorrow and stick it on the kitchen windowsill Edited February 2, 2017 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ to add background music :
immanuel
i can't remember the exact linear procedure but i was thought or told the best way was to clip the edge off the seed to allow the moisture etc. in when boiling and germinating inside wet tissue Edited November 6, 2017 by manu
☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
I've been successful before with germinating a few species from seed with this method and I just stuck with it because it worked a treat, just I promised quite a few folk who I shared seeds with; that I would make pictorials to show them what I'd been describing since a picture tells a thousand words n all, its taken this long to get to a point where I can try again thanks for the other tip though, I've heard of clipping/scarifying them before soaking in non-boiling water before but not prior to a boil.. I didn't know they were THAT tough. Anyhooo here's the only plant that survived from the homeless hostel window sill all the way through the 1 bed appt and just successfully overwintering in the garden at the new house Good ole dealbata eh? And here's one I bought just under a year ago and planted out , seems to have enjoyed the winter too Edited February 2, 2017 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ never forget dealbata

immanuel
well i think in the bush nowadays they literally have undergo a wild fire to work in the ground, but i also feel the climate is quite different and if my sense is correct some form of cross-pollination is introduced in the species. im certain this has to do with the water table as the plant naturally drinks portions of ocean water. just thinking out loud. i think a lot of cactus i have come across is very similar in the way it is too hot. ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
Yeah they do , I think that's why they call them pioneer species because they have the gift of re-birthing the way toward woodland/forests with their leaf litter ... I learned this with mimosa tenuiflora , and the advantage it has of being able to both; grow in full unprotected sun, and in the deep shade that the lifeforms it enabled to exist finally towering above them creates... Today I nicked the tips off the phleb, courtii and obtusi seeds like Manu suggested because it appeared the boil hadn't really done much. One of the phlebos was very soft and looked like an empty shell it floated after I'd nicked it with the scratch art tool... , I haven't touched the pack from communacacian yet... - they look large enough to have no probs with the scratch art tool.. I figured I'd start with the smallest seeds from another SABer's acacia multi species pack first (courtii and the smallest phleb and obtusi seed in the pack) and work my way up to the bigger ones if confident enough.. and I might do the alpina (much larger seeds) soon. If the phlebs get going, I can pass that particular milestone... then more inoc' to also propagate rhizobia in all of the seedling tubes , then once I'm in full swing; hit up the communacacians pack.. I got a" further progress" burkittii sprout pic to add I'd like to think the speed was from adding a small cloud of dust from the bag of communacacian's phlebo noc the other day.. ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
Clipping the ends off the seeds after the boil and soak really sped things up it seems! A' courtii , D' leptolobus and M' tenuiflora all pooped tails today .... unfortunately I snapped the best leptolobus sprout which don't appear to take too well to having their seed coating removed with the scratch art tool... from being so brittle I guess? Luckily the other 2 species were much more forgiving I forgot where I originally read the expression "tail-pooping" probably world seed supply blog or one of their posts on a forum... I clipped the ends of some M' scabrella I'd soaked and changed the water on all the soak tubs and sowed the 2 sprouted courtii, 2 of the 3 sprouted tenuiflora and 1 of the 2 leptolobus sprouts..
