eBay/Gumtree finds

Nice, Skellum.

I found a wild one at the back of my property a couple of weeks ago. I'm gonna pinch a pad off it and pot it up. Watch out for those little hairy spines on the fruit. They be real buggers to get out of your hands....:)

What country would one have to live in to find these in the supermarket? :drool2:

Pretty much anywhere in western europe I would think, the ones I see usually come from spain or morocco. I'll make sure to take a pic next time

A lot more subtle in flavour than I was expecting... lovely texture, I like the big seeds... crunchy and melony... fkn delicious.

Gorgeous beetroot colour too, less staining though.

I'm impressed :)

Aahhahahaha I hope it's no one from here going for this... you can import them from various places around the world and pay a $50 customs fee to get them here for a third of that easily, if it is goodluck to you! weeks wage almost for 2/3 of Australia right there.

I agree but I think it could be a very dehydrated terscheckii, look at those wrinkles. The spines do look like the ones on my terscheckii, just imagine this one with the ribs inflated.

Can you tell me more about this $50 customs fee? I was under the impression that all live plant imports had to be quarantined and live there for several months...

I haven't done this first hand but personally know people who import various plants (caput medusae, uebelmannia's and other varigates etc. and they say its roughly $50 quarantine fee per plant - I have not personally asked or aspired to yet do this as there are plenty of lovely species within Australia and tissue culture is basically an exact science and makes masses of one partial plant into 100's or 1000's and will be my chosen avenue. Sorry I cant help further :(

SABers,
I received this cut of LEN today from PH on ebay, super expensive but well packaged and immaculate.
The cut is still quite fresh and the end is speckled with some black and orange spots, its not yet soft or mushy, further drying will see it hard and woody.
LEN3.thumb.jpg.30e621a6de957fe801a725efae7c8811.jpgLEN1.thumb.jpg.c74822f16f8158c05e32a37cd1a69919.jpg
-But should I cut back 1cm and dust with dusting sulfur anyway?
-OR could I get away with just making a wettable sulfur paste/cream and cake it on the end so the moisture of the paste penetrates the not yet fully calloused?
Either way will then let dry out for a further 2-3 weeks before planting.

EDIT: the discoloration was really only JUST surface deep, I've gone with the wettable sulfur paste,
then powder puffed that wet surface with further dusting sulfur, will leave to dry for a fortnight + now...
Hope I've done the right thing, can still cut back if its recommended, would really rather avoid it though:

That is a beautiful looking cut, i would prob cut it back, prob cut it about 10cm and if the 10cm piece looks good plant it for more plants?

It doesnt look to bad but maybe it is worth loosing a little to help insure the cuts health? if not i would keep a close eye on it just incase.

Leave it, It's fine, Put it in the sun for a few hours.  This happens when it's still wet and not callused due to moisture .[like watching a orange go bad] They needed to wait a few more days before posting

That's what she said to do also (PH ebay) Smithy and you're right too they aren't the same person.
I wonder who the reverred SAB 'Planthelper' is/was and what happened there?

She said the cut was taken 11 days ago, I have a Peru John cut taken same time, mailed same time as well, but its been held up at chullora, sydney from its way down from 'bimby.
Where as the Len Macro arrived today. Christ I hope this other cut arrives tomorrow and doesn't spent the weekend in the post office.

Cheers for the advice peeps.

For me to know and you to find out. Lol.  It mainly happens to large cuts were moisture is  lost and there's no airflow around the cut. I wouldn't worry about this one,

Peru John, from "Planthelper" ebay. Again I think she chose to post it well and truly before it was correctly dried.
Sulfur treatment required, I have avoided cutting back, tis a damn site worse than yesterdays LEN, but still just surface spots, nothing deep.
The cut was weeping upon arrival, definitely needed more time... She threw in a free hybrid pup though.

@interbeing your on the ball my brother,
Very impressed with your plant mate.

EDIT: Planthelper threw in a free seedgrown 40mm loph too that I hadn't even noticed all wrapped up. Extremely kind of them!

great looking cuts and awesome genetics there : ) just keep an eye on them cause it would be a dam shame to loose them to bacteria/rot, when it is not a nice calloused heal there is potential for infection but that's just me maybe being a little cautious or paranoid. Anyhow let us know how things progress : )

Nothing has been planted yet, light sulfur dusting on the iffy cuts, other than that everything is drying out and healing well.
I will pot up in 1-2 more weeks. I'm confident everything will be all okay, but will keep a close eye on them though.
