MountainGoat Posted March 17, 2017 My cereus Peru has different coloured flowers... doesn't look like my monstrose ones either... I reckon it's a different cereus...
Kykeion Posted March 21, 2017 this things been on gumtree for a lifetime, probably due to the price, just wondering...is it just cereus peruvianus monstrose or is it something different, I find it hard to tell https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mentone/plants/huge-cactus-cereus-repandus-monstrose-/1115305478 Link says it is cereus repandus monstrose . Pretty cool looking, and love the flower color. Price is crazy though.
godless Posted March 22, 2017 I don't wanna bang my head against the wall, but from the info it would seem that PD's jims special (peru) was technically the original, as far as I can tell the actual jim has only been applying the "J" names in the last 12-18 months, after realizing that was the name being used by collectors. PD coined the name "J" for cactus country clones a long time ago. I feel I need to defend myself or else people think im a dickhead. maybe im a dickhead for posting this, oh well.

And what the fuck is trichonopsis? I know it would seem its a cross between trichocereus and echinopsis...ive never heard trichonopsis before...anyone? personally im not a fan of anything that wont survive unless grafted, gotta get things on their own roots.
waterboy 2.0 Posted April 3, 2017 Trichonopsis is an orchid hybrid...... yeah I am sus on it as well

MountainGoat Posted April 3, 2017 I don't know anything about whiora, but seem to remember reading somewhere it is an echinopsis x trich hybrid from fields... could be wrong on that though.,.,
waterboy 2.0 Posted April 3, 2017 (edited) early morning no sleep google-fu https://theoldtrichoseriousethnobotany.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/echinopsistrichocereus-hybrid-whiora-x.html MGs on the money, trichonopsis however it it not....at least how I see it with horticultural hybrids. You could call it such I suppose, but I dont think you can stick the Hort. label on it. Pedantic I know, but its how I was schooled. Drildo Posted May 18, 2017 Gone from Parramatta & the pipe, to this. Never going back mate, this place will be a medicine oasis in a decade. I've accumulated these badboys over the last 9 weeks. Went from zero to hero in 9 weeks thanks to SAB. I love my new home.

Insequent Posted May 25, 2017 That spot on the coast you're at looks like heaven, Skellum. Looks like you've got a perfect place to heal your soul , mate and you're only adding to the sense of paradise with your garden. I can almost hear Mother Earth sigh with contentedness. And I am envious.
Drildo Posted May 25, 2017 Thx @Insequent mate. Means a lot . Yeah sometimes I get to thinking and imagine the old days with a bit of nostalgia. In the early days it was hard but the further away I move from it all the easier it becomes. Just looking at the view of the water and the cacti mate is all I need nowdays mate. When your on the shit you don't appreciate natural beauty like this, so to be constantly on it seems like I'd be wasting my surroundings... I've gotta get off the cones and cigarettes (swap to a vape maybe?) and exercise more and I'll come good 100% Need to get out there and surf every fucking day, EVERYDAY... its like soul exercise, soooo so good. When I got out of rehab 12 months ago and moved down here, the first weekend I arrived I saw a whale giving birth directly out the front 20m off the rocks. Then everyday for 2+ months we saw at least a half dozen whales on the horizon. Saw them all heading north, then was a short break, then watched them all head south again. Now just yesterday I saw 4 whales for the first time this year so I think they are on there migratory path again & will coming close to the coast again this year. I think because of the Australian Intervention (Shaming the Japanese Mongrel Whalers) potentially numbers are increasing again? not sure but its fuckin magic...

Prickly pears are one of my favorite fruits ever, they taste amazing and they're easily found at the supermarket here. In Morocco you have people with horse chariots full of the things selling them in the street and peeling them off for you, it's awesome. Takes a little practice to peel them in one piece with a fork and knife, you want to cut slices off both ends then make a slit in the skin along the length and unroll the fruit with your fork.
