Question

Hello.

Bought this little beauty yesterday at a hardware store, not completely sure what it is.

My best guess is some form of Trichocereus candicans. Could it possibly be one of the baby giants? Is it even a Trichocereus?

It has 2 central spines per areole, 10-12 radial ones. 12 ribs, shiny green epidermis.

Thanks!

Could even be trichocereus tarijensis. i wouldn't worry about trying to id it till its bigger as candicans, terscheckii, pasacana and tarijensis can look very similar at a young age :)

Thank you EG! I'm very happy with this find, I wanted to add a candicans to my collection for a while now! I also found a beautifull cluster of Oreocereus trolii seedlings, which was an even funnier coincedence, because I've been debating ordering Oreocereus seeds for the last few weeks, and now I got five 5-8 cm seedlings for the price of a pack of 10 seeds! The price is not important of course, but this species is definitely not what you'd call a fast grower, I saved myself 5 or so years of waiting. :)

Yeah, tarjensis was my second guess as well, but I didn't dare to hope! :)

I've seen some pictures on European sites of store bought T. tarjensis seedlings that look practically identical, and this one has a 'Made in Holland' label on it. So I guess there's a fair chance it might actually be a tarjensis, and on that assumption alone it will be getting preferential treatment. :)
