Disc clip / Gym / I am in deep shit / stims for acceleration

Recommended Posts

I have severe back ache problems.

Its official I have a harsh slipped disc case (and another upcoming one) , even though I am being told I am relatively lucky because it doesn't hit me in the legs (disc slip facing directly forwards and all).

Well I dont feel unlucky, but I would certainly would have started doing some back excercise if I knew my problem was so advanced. Anyways, now I know.

I am thin and with a minimal weigh, but very untrained, I dont excercice and I almost exclusively walk in the forests (very often a mixture of climbing and walking) I even use the car or motor bike to go to the shop at 100m to get beers or something! well this up to now...

This crisis was very strong, I backstepped twice and I sat in bed over 1 month! remaining muscles must have slept!

I am doing physiotherapy and have still 5 sessions. I think I am in mid of the very difficult for my case return to some kind of body normality. I have been talking slow walks, and many fucking muscles hurt. The physiotherapist the first day told me I told dont have any dorsal muscles!

And to think that when I was ten I was proud of my abdominal muscles, thin and all. I am 35 btw

I have been talking walks more than once per day and doing the same for excercises right after the walks. I feel really better when I do my excercises, I feel better instantly for a while. But boy, its boring and tiring, let alone I think the Lyrica medication might do a synergy with the endorphins, because when I do excercise to the point of getting tired, I did become dizzy twice. Maybe it was the endorphins alone?

ANywayz whats the question/ PROBLEM , I hear you ask... ? I am bored . I know I must do my excercises more and more often to see some results. A slipped disc doesn't fix itself.

So I admit that, even though I am really in the begining (we plan to go to gym with a friend with simior problem) of doing any progress and form some muscles in my thinny body, to boost up any efort I do, maybe with the shit people in gyms speed up things??

I wonder if it would be of any help to boost up stamina while on excercises attempt, as, knowing myself, I cant see myself doing regular excercise or lots of excercises.... apart from particular ones for the particular muscles to keep in shape, maybe going for swimming semi-regularly or something...

I also have a chronic problem in my neck, which I have managed to keep in control through mostly stretching positions, but with me being lying for 30 days+, it tends to be agitated too.

gym excercices which I plan to go for at least 2 months, would help the neck problem too.

So....

any experiences/advice from people who were forced to do excercise for such problem?

for me I think, I might be more in the mood to do the excercises on some stim.

even some coffee which I hate. So I ask, which stim could be combined to help me get in shape?

supposing the main crisis is through and motion has been mostly restored

could a 2-3 hour full-on ephedrine session per week be equal to relatively similar to more 'proper' mild daily excercise?

Your core can be worked out once even twice a day. That's where I assume the therapist has you starting, with Pilate style exercise learning to use your core. Stuff like glutes, back, abdominals, should be something in the realm of three or four sessions a week spaced apart for adequate recovery. Keep increasing the reps each time, that's called progressive overload. Get plenty of protein or your effort might be wasted.

My advice, forget all about stims. With basic advice like I've just given your first few months should show good results, they call that noob gains.

2 hours of walking is okay but a two hour workout is WAY too much. One of the many reasons why using stims doesn't make sense.

I have had two herniated discs since last Christmas which didn't get any better by just sitting around not doing much. I was doing some sporadic gym work and have pretty good all round muscle tone but I'm also overweight. L4/L5. And L5/S1

I also have unrelated issues with T7/T8...

Over the last few months I have being seeing a osteopath. although I was a bit sceptic at first, she has made a big difference . She likes to use acupuncture and insists its based on real research and therefore not witchcraft as I suggested.

I think any back problem can be helped by swimming, Swim like a mofo and your back will love you for it. If you find swimming too boring. Go for a swim in the ocean. ;) if it helps there must be lots of ethnobotanical ocean life to be discovered. Lots of seaweeds contain indole alkaloids for example. Lots of stuff will kill you too!

Good luck, and don't suffer, get lots of medication from you doctors.

You should not flex or extend the spine if you have a compressed disk. Therefore training your core with conventional methods would be completely inappropriate and dangerous. Also don't ever ask for advice on bodybuilding.com see a specialist like a physiotherapist and they will tell you what exercises you can do.

Swimming would be a good thing as it takes the weight off the spine but don't go crazy. Also it is integral that you continue to do things in your daily life like walking and household chores but seriously no lifting until you see a doctor. I can't offer much advice as I would have to know more about your case and actually observe your limitations but be careful is my number one piece of advice.

Mate I'm 42 and 12 months ago had my second lot of surgery on my lower back for bulging disc's that were not coming right. I live in a degree of acceptable pain but do what I want pretty much.

As above DO NOT lift weights, DO NOT start smashing core excercises. Fuck me you will be a cripple before you know it. DO NOT take stimulants( well not before excercise anyway).

Do the stretches, walk a lot. Use a cross trainer. I spend 5 mornings a week on that thing.Low impact. Also good advise above about swimming. My surgeon highly recommends that.

You just got to take it easy and with backs it's all about time.

If it doesn't come right surgery really can help if that's where you are at but get a good doctor. A lot of doctors really don't get back issues.

Heya Mutant :) My boyfriend had a discectomy a few months ago after a couple of steroid injections L5-S1. He'd been seeing his chiropractor for a while but any relief was short lived at best. The best he could help it with was swimming and medium-length easy walks. Me being crippled too I LOVE swimming and can't wait to get back into my old house which has a pool. I want to start doing physio with someone who can do bowen therapy. I know sweet FA about bowen therapy but I'm keen to give it a go.

Also acupuncture fo sho!

thanks for replies

I have thought of acupunture, it seems to be able to make the crisis and pain go away faster also perhaps prolonging the time between crisis...

can acupunture be used preventively?

but with these things, I guess maintaining a healhty muscle portion to support the spine seems the only option, which can be only be archieved by daily excercise...

trying to repeat this as a mantra, in case it sticks and I stick with a fucking schedule... at the time its seems that the daily walk witha friend (some 4-5 kilometers) and after wards excercise seems to work pretty okey...

DUDE!! I had some insane crippling back pains a few years back for long periods of time. If I can avoid it NEVER again!

I train regularly now. Like Thunder Ideal said.... core exercises!!! Pilates is awesome,.. but there is so much more and plenty vids to be found on youtube.

If you have no back muscles.......you need to slowly but surely put on some meat around that spine Mutant!!

Learn from the physical therapist and work a progressive routine into your life. Join a gym!

Walking is not so good for the back. Running can be very bad for the back. When your back strength improves and you can slowly start running. But remember that jogging puts allot of stress on the spine, especially if your back is weak and if your movement is not dynamic/efficient.

You can beat this problem Mutant! But take it slowly. Maintenance should be at least 1 time a week if you have a good complete routine.

Like I said,... but some meat around that spine first..... you should start getting less pain after 2 or 3 weeks of physical therapy,....then progressively keep at it....... set a goal...... hold a plank for a minute for example....

Swimming is really good,........ walking is a NO NO, especially if your problem is severe. So I disagree with Getafix (agree to disagree hi hi hi)...... and yes,.. do take the exercises slowly.

BTW I think that Pilates is good to get you started. (I do not agree with some of stretches they do. They can make the problem worse)

As soon as you have almost no back pain anymore,.. you should start some more serious strengthening exercises.

Always warm up,... do the strengthening,...and lightly stretch just to loosen the muscles up a bit. You do not have to be flex like a contortionist, just flex enough to be functional in daily life.

Owww,... stimmulants,... what the hell for??? Useless!!! and will make the pan worse due to muscular overstimulation from compensating to keep the pain at a minimum.

Better read up on the way bodybuilders eat to grow.

My back is pretty better. I am kind of happy to feel the body strengthen.

The first weeks I could not walk properly, I think its doing me good to walk a bit , up to 4-5 km, before doing my excercises. I have not seen any problems by it, but it has to be stright not uphill

I do my regular excercise, plus my excericse for my knee, plus some excercice for my neck.

They are excercises I have been told by the doctor and physiotherapist to do.

I am doing a couple stretchings I think some are pilates and some are yoga.

I am doing it carefully and slowly , now what is maintenance?

Next step is to diversify the strength training a bit. When you feel like you've conquered your current program eg your reps have tripled and your form is good, see a physio for a new program.
