whadayarecon?

Question

Got given this amazing looking cut today. Spotted it growing in the front yard of house on the way to work, dropped in and asked if I could buy a cutting. The old lady wouldn't have any of it and told me - take that bit there, it need sorting, she said. It is an awesome thing. Any clues to what it might be, besides great? I got the cactus bug now.

Holy shit! That's beautiful!! I love how awesome people usually are when you ask them for a cutting of their plants.

My plan is the cut it in half let sit till well dried and plant. Let me know if I'm missing something with the grand plan.

my gawd son, by all means do not cut this plant, but plant it fully in the ground if possible and in a large pot if not possible.

add some fertilizer & watch it perform for you in ways you cant imagine.

Probably not a Trichocereus but AWESOME Plant. Could be a Myrtillocactus or something like that. And agree with zelly! If you have the climate to plant it out, i´d leave it as it is and give it free rootrun! If you cut it again, it will slow it down for at least 5 years in regards to flowering. Not sure if this is even able to flower but i´d rather not cut any plants into too small pieces. Did that when i started cactus growing and regret it till now.

It looks big enough to cut 3 or 4 times to me. Although personally I wouldn't since i like starting with bigger cuttings. They root/grow faster. Good luck with it!
