waterboy 2.0 Posted May 8, 2014 lol...not sure too many want to see WBs array of functional knives The curve makes it easier to cut into the stems, and the brush is for cleaning dirt and debris of them.

Sallubrious Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) I found an Opinel with a conventional blade very similar to that some time in the eighties, it was buried in a pile of caustic dust on a worksite. It looked like it was fairly old when I found it. I sharpened it about five years ago and haven't used it since and after seeing this thread I dragged it out and it sliced through a piece of paper I held up with two fingers without too much effort considering its state of neglect. It's a classic piece of metallurgy & a perfect example of minimalist functional design. I like the way the ferrule turns to lock the blade when it's extended too, they have a really safe feel about them compared to a conventional pocketknife that doesn't lock. Edit: I'm just looking at that pic WB does that metal ferrule turn & lock the blade when it's extended on that model? Edited May 10, 2014 by Sally
waterboy 2.0 Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) yep Sally it has the locking ferrule, a classic opinel design (tbh a design I need to get use to as its my first opinel). Can lock it closed and open, so it does have a very safe feel to it. The blade is stainless steel, handle is beechwood (they do other harder woods as well), and the brush is boar hair apparently. The "serration" on the back of the blade is suppose to make cuticle removal easier. I still have a bit of glow in the dark paracord I am gunna make a lanyard out of (I am getting old and put shit down...lol) I am thinking a short ornate one with a belt clip, rather than putting into a pouch. I'll work that out once I get a personal feel for the tool. EDIT - I am thinking more of a ornate "whipping" onto the handle though rather than using the lanyard hole. Better grip, and more glowing space EDIT - like this...lol from Stormdranes blog....an excellent site for knotwork pieces of art http://stormdrane.blogspot.com.au/ Edited May 9, 2014 by waterboy
Sallubrious Posted May 10, 2014 Will you still be able to fold it up if you pimp out the handle ?
waterboy 2.0 Posted May 10, 2014 I'll make a thin metal "sleeve" and cheat a bit...lol. I've pimped a few folding knives that way as gifts. It won't be a full traditional wrap, another of the future projects. May just go fck it and use the lanyard hole
