help needed! droopy khat cutting...

so, I've had this little cutting a few months, is rooted and it's thrown a few new leaves and has shown healthy progress, but since the temp dropping for autumn it has started to droop and drop some leaves.

I keep the soil slightly moist most the time, and have begun turning a heat mat on under it.... but I want to take care if this droopy, leaf dropping prob before it's too late, any tips much appreciated!

thanks :-)

I'm no expert with these plants but I don't think they'd like the moisture so much? They do well in wa in the ground, and that's pretty dry and sandy.

I'm sure others with more knowledge will chime in...

yeah khat doesn't need to be wet constantly, Id water them the day after the soil drys out, and through winter this can be once every two weeks depending on the size of the soil

poor thing looks like its drowning....killed by too much lovin.

size of pot & size of seedings root system means 100% wet feet all the time with no chance to ever dry out.

Cant grow, its too busy trying to survive drowning, and failing miserably.

That, and your potting soil needs serious improvement. Aim for well draining & mix in arse loads of pumice.

Good boney mineral rich soil. I throw about 40% corro cacti fines mix into with the potting mix to give it the drainage plus additional extra nutes n minerals. Im pretty slack when it comes to watering. When I see the new shoots beginning to droop is when I run and get the sprinkler but thats probably not ideal however the plants still pack off the growth

thanks team! I will try a 50/50 perlite mix as that's what's on hand.

should I keep it in the small pot then so it cannot retain too much moisture?

appreciate the help, will hopefully be able to post a pic of it not drowning soon :-)
