Tryptameanie Posted June 11, 2003 Give you the shits("excessive consumption may have a laxative effect"). I think it's a polyalcohol of some sort, maybe a sugar or polysacharide?
Auxin Posted June 11, 2003 "I think it's a polyalcohol of some sort, maybe a sugar or polysacharide?" Polyhydric alcohol- yes, sugar- no. Its 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexahydroxy-n-hexane. The stuff added to food is synthetic, but it does occur 'naturally' in some fruits. Versatile stuff- you can use it to make food, cosmetics, tobacco, medicine, vitamin C, tooth paste, paper, textiles, surfactants, plastics, initiating explosives, etc. (the latter is not recomended, the explosive derivative is a crystaline compound with the structure of two 'nitroglycerins' hooked end-to-end, kinda unstable to say the least). mattax Posted June 12, 2003 Extraction of alkaloid chloride salts from some tableted compounds is limited by an ionic attraction in solution to sodium methyl cellulose this prevents the uptake for extraction into a solvent by ionic attraction to this compound that is relative to the polar properties of the solute. sorbitol is merely a sugar based compound that is soluble in alcohol and water, but because sorbital is a solid at temperatures close to that of dry ice it is possible to prevent its dissolution into liquid
somnif Posted June 12, 2003 quote: what would several disprin pills and coffee do... These two in combination seem to been particularly nasty on the stomach in my experience - always have something to eat before taking asprin. If you are not sure if your headache is due to caffine withdrawal or not, this combination makes sense. Beyond that...nope. Mattax, that is a very informative reply that you just posted. [ 12.
